View Full Version : Bug: Recording onto Humax DRT800F via Firewire ports fails in certain situations

I've discovered a bug in recording onto my Humax Tivo via the Firewire connections. If my camcorder is connected to the Tivo via Firewire while the Tivo boots up, then the Tivo does not receive any video from the camcorder when I "Record from video camera". If I instead boot the Tivo with the camcorder *not* connected (which I admit is a much more common situation), the Tivo is able to receive video fine.

In the bug situation, when the Tivo is not receiving video, it is still able to send start and stop signals to the camcorder. However, no video shows up, and the Tivo recording screen remains blue.

I tested this multiple times on 1 Tivo. I was also able to see a failure on a 2nd Tivo, but returned that one before I discovered the cause, so I wasn't able to test if video came back if I rebooted with the camera disconnected.

The machines were both Humax DRT800F's. The bug did not appear with the factory default OS, which was 5.something. Both machines had this problem show up when they updated to the 7.2.x software (don't remember if it was 7.2.1 or 7.2.0. I have the TSN if someone at Tivo would like to check).

My video camera is a Sony DCR-TRV25. I tested this with 2 different firewire cables to eliminate bad cables as a cause.

And btw, I live 30 minutes from Tivo headquarters, so if you guys want me to drive over to help repro this, let me know. :)
