Hey all,

I know all of this is probably covered somewhere, but I have been searching and I think I am just missing some crucial details. I upgraded my HDVR2 a long while back and now I am getting the stuttering/slow motion issue which I hear is related to a dying hard drive. It has gotten progressively worse as time goes on. My wife's unmodified HDVR2 is now showing signs of the same issue.

We're currently running 3.1.1

I understand that newer versions are available that offer HMO. I do not have a phone line so I need to get an image to support it. Would this be 4.0.1b? Does it also offer the folders in the Now Playing list? Would this be something I need to buy from PTVUpgrade (Instant Cake). Wasn't quite sure as the last time I needed to upgrade, I just used Hinsdale.

So, in short, I want to replace the drive in both HDVR2's to allow for:
* greater than 137GB HD limit
* HMO
* no phone line

What's the best route to do it yourself?

Thanks,
Bill

You want to use Tivo software release 6.2. This can be purchased as part of an Instant Cake CD or you can PM Stan Simmons (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=62430) and see if he has a link to an image you can download.

However you get a good 6.2 image, you should use the Zipper (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929) to install and enhance it.

Having a hard time through all the posts and docs on the Zipper getting a clear picture...

I'm currenlty on 3.1 seomthing, no update in over 600 days. Can I use the InstaCake CD or 6.2 image with the Zipper to copy and keep all my settings and recordings to a fresh new drive? (I'm paranoid about data loss, so I'm going to start with a new drive)

Copy first then apply the InstaCake CD and Zipper utils? (Concerned about order of operations.)

Or should I just dup the drive, hook up the USB ethernet and let the HDVR2 update to 6.2 on its own through the ether?

Thanks!
