Hello!

Newbie here. I think I posted this to the wrong forum earlier - I'll repost here (sorry for the excess BW usage!)

I have an HD Tivo connected to a RCA 16:9 tube via component cables (not really relevant for the recording).

I have the composite outputs going directly to a Liteon (Digitalmax) DVD recorder.

I switch to the HD TiVo to 480i and can record just fine onto the DVD's using the composite outputs into the DVD recorder. Audio and Video are there, and being recorded.

The problem is that it records the side panels (they are obviously coming out of the HD Tivo) for 16:9, or top *AND* bottom panels, or some other version. I would like to be able to watch the DVD on 4:3 screens with the full picture.

I have changed my HD TiVo to tell it I have a 4:3 TV.

I have used the ratio (Full, Panel) switch.

Tried every combination of each. All to no avail. No combination produces a full-screen 4:3 image!

When played back in another DVD player with a 4:3 screen, no combination of settings will show a full 4:3 screen without panels either on top, on the sides, or having the picture squished down from widescreen.

There are no input settings on the recorder - it obviosly records what it sees. I don't see any solution involving the recorder.

Are there any settings on the HD TiVo I missed?

Help!

TIA,
Ray

It is my fault - I posted in two forums. Sorry.

Can you look at my reply to your other post? Thanks
