Well, I guess my unit has finally gone belly up. The last few months its been rebooting, and displaying the usual freezing up, no response, and huge pixalation problems. I'd tried a clear and restart last month but it only helped for a couple of weeks. I made sure not to use season pass, and only had 3 or 4 hours worth of recording on it. Today it rebooted and never recovered. It powers up, then eventually goes to a green screen ("Severe Error"), it then repeats this over and over again.
I can't go without my HiDef Tivo, should I buy another one, while DTV takes it's time with the new replacement box? Will DTV do anything if I called the help desk? My unit was one of the first ones released, is it too old for DTV to do anything?
Thanks for any suggestions

I gather it has passed its one year warranty? It wouldn't hurt to contact DirecTV and request a break on a replacement HR10-250. Or, you can replace the hard drive yourself. Check out these resources ....

Check to make sure you aren't overheating. I had this happen to a unit and then noticed my fan wasn't "up to par" and cooling off the unit well enough. Fixed the fan and the problem went away.
As much as people want to believe it's not always a hard drive issue.
Or just call D* and see what kind of deal you can get on a new one.

Thanks for the help, I called D* and their sending a reconditioned unit. They first wanted $149 plus shipping. After nagging them, I finally got free shipping, plus a $5 credit off my bill for the next 6 months, plus an immediate $50 credit of my bill. So its going to cost me around $70, its the best I could do. One year warranty on the unit, it only has to last till the new HiDef boxes come out, hopefully this year.

Looks like mine just died today with the same issue / error.
Did they make you commit to another year to get that recondition unit? If so for me might make sense to replace the HD myself.
