I just came accross one of these units. Can anyone tell me if I can use it with a Coolsat 4000 satellite IRD (FTA), with out a subscription? Thanks a bunch.

No to either, unless you are looking to steal both TiVo and satellite service.

OK, There are a lot of free channels coming thru these satellites. I'm interested recording some of the programs. So what you are saying is that I can modify the TIVo unit and attach it to the IRD? Can you direct me to how I can modify this TIVo unit and attach it to the IRD? Thanks.

TiVo stays in business by selling subscriptions to their service. Just pay the twelve dollars.
