I am upgrading me set to a panny 42" plasma HDTV and really want to stick with D*
The problem is getting local HD channels. I live 46 miles from the NY transmitters and have quite a few tall trees in line of site.

According to antennaweb, I need tha largest (violet) antenna and probably an amp to get a signal, but I hate to make the investment in antenna etc only to have the trees block it.
I have an unopened HR10-250 here now, but I'll probably return it and see what is happening with D* in the near future, I might have to go to Cablevision for the HD content they offer in the meantime. 18 channels plus locals in HD.
Any thoughts?

crapshoot that far away. Testing literally is the only way. If you had a 'junky' antenna around, maybe you could try to at least test for a slight signal. I know i tried a very old uhf/vhf/fm indoor antenna in my kitchen and i got 'some' signal. But it's really best if you can find a local place with a return policy.

Cable is definitely your easiest option at this point.
