Newbie here, but I'm no stranger to the boards. You guys have provided me with more help than you know....thanks.

Now, for my question. I searched on this and found similar threads, but nothing to answer...I am replacing the drive in my SD-H400. I want to use the old drive from the Toshiba as a second drive in my TCD540040. I assume the old drive will have to be cleared and reformatted to do this, but I have not seen confirmation on this. Will I have to use the tools available on the net for this? I understand the process if I want to use the drive as a primary in another box, but what is the process for using a removed primary from one box as a secondary in another?

Thanks in advance for any help...if this has been discussed and I can not find it, I apologize and request that you direct me to the thread...

You don't need to do anything with old drive. Mfsrestore completely wipes the disk and reformats for TiVo on the fly.

So, are you saying that I don't have to do anything at all? All I have to do is replace it in the one and drop it into the second without any formatting?

Just use MFS Tools on that drive as if it was a new drive. MFS Tools doesn't care if the drive was previously installed in a Tivo or not.

All that said, you don't really want to use to drives that small together, due to the risks involved in running two drives
.
IMO you shouldn't consider two drives unless they are at least 160 GB each.
