Hello All,

I have an HR10-250 that I upgraded by adding a 300 Gig Drive. The system is running TivoWeb, but I have shut all of it down except the telnet server aspect of the hack. My problem is that when I go to watch an HD recorded program (could be Discovery HD, HBO, Showtime, ABC, CBS, any of them) the program will studder and freeze and I get MPEG tearing of the image if it is really bad. I can sometimes alleviate the issue by making sure I am not recording anything and that neither of the tuners is set to an HD channel while I am watching.

If I am watching and a show starts to record I usually know it as it will start to studder and freeze up. I either have to stop watching an HD program or stop the recording.

does anybody have any suggestions for alleviating the issue all together? I am about ready to toss the whole thing the trash, as the issue is so bad that just about all HD material is unwatchable and it seems that stopping recording and or rebooting the tivo is not clearing the issue most of the time these days.

I have removed both of the hard drives and run SMART tests on them and they both pass fine. Neither one is making clicks or whirrs, so I am not convinced it is the drive(s).

I really need some suggestions on this!! Thanks

Scott

Probably belongs in the upgrade forum but..........

Did the unit stutter before the upgrade?

What model is the 2nd drive? I had a Maxtor cause the same problem and found a post that the new Maxtors do more error checking hence the hiccups.

Have you run diagnostics on the drive beyond SMART (from the vendor)?

Wish I could answer this with a

"No of the unit ran fine before the upgrade"

Truth, I don't know since I didn't power it up before the upgrade.

As for the drive it is a Maxtor and I have run the drive through the tests from the vendor. Nothing showed an error though...

Here is the thread I was referring to.

At this point , I think you need to start over with a single drive and go from there.
