I want to use my hr10-250 outside to feed a projector. I ONLY want to use it for a over the air channel so it's not plugged into the dish. It says it has to acquire dish signal and won't let me get to live tv. Is there a way to watch over the air without hooking it to a dish ? How ? PLEASE ?

Yup. Press DirecTV button to go to DTV Central. Rerun Guided Setup, specify antenna only. I did this earlier today to test an antenna. You'll then need to go to the Channels menu and have it scan for available channels.

I called dtv and their 2nd tier tech support said no way to do this. Nice to see them so up on tech support.

I'll remember that for next year.

Sorry that you didn't check back here soon enough.

Note that with this method you can WATCH OTA (and use the live buffer) but you cannot record it.
