I tried creating a bootable CD using the weakness link. On that link it says to copy as an ISO image which I did. I then burned the ISO image to the CD and set the bios in the PC to boot from the CD.

When it tried to boot off of the CD it said boot failure.

I then made a bootable floppy so that I could then make a bootable CD and use the boot image from the floppy. When i tried this the Nero program said there was no boot image on the floppy.

I then tried to boot from the floppy and it booted into linux with a # symbol. I then typed C: and then hit enter and the screen symbol changed from # to <.

Since I have a bootable floppy how can I use that to create the new drive? It would seem to me that there are no other needed files on the floppy other than the boot file. How can I get to the CD drive using the boot floppy so that I can use MFStools to create the new drive for the Tivo.

Seems like a lot of others got past the first step of creating the BOOT CD bit I cant even get that part done.

I have a Humax DRT800 and before i upgrade the drive in the Tivo I would at least like to be able to boot off the CD.

You cannot just copy the iso image to the CD. You need to go to file menu in your burner program and select create disk from image and then point it to the iso image.

I did exactly that and even though it copied the image file to the CD it is not bootable.

The files and folders on the CD are:

Folder BIN
Folder BOOT
Folder SHARE
File BOOT.CATALOG
File RAMDISK.TAR
File TRANS.TBL

I'm going to make a wild guess that may be way off base, but sounds like you are desperate! Is your Windows set to show all system and hidden files? Showing these is turned off by default in a Windows install. Go into control panel and folder options. Select the view tab and see what all is checked and not checked. If off enable viewing system and hidden files. It could be there are hidden and/or system files in the ISO image that are just not visible to the burning program so don't get onto the CD.

The files look correct... can you boot any other bootable CD? Check the boot order in your BIOS settings and/or unplug the hard drive.

Just a thought, With WinRAR or WinZIP installed selecting an .iso file will open a folder showing the contents is this what you copied to the CD. Or did you open Nero cancel the Wizard, select File -> open -> select the .iso file -> open then burn.

Well I figured it out. What I was doing was opening the file with some kind of RAR file extractor. Extracting the files to a folder and then burning the image to the CD when all I was supposed to do was burn the image file to the CD that I downloaded already.

I did not know it was ready to go.

I did the upgrade and now have 286 hours at basic quality and 94 at my default setting of high quality. I installed a Hitachi drive but I am not really happy with it because it makes to much noise constantly.
