That was a good ep...a little predictable, maybe, but still good...I like how no one would sit in the general's chair :D

I had fun. It wasn't great, but it was fun. Sad to see the Prometheus get blown up. :(

Damn! They dern blowed up the Permetheeus!
That really sucked. Poor Pendergrass. Some much needed action this episode. You can tell Browder want to action act but the other series stars want to stand around and collect paychecks, though. :(

I can't believe that they lost Prometheus. Hopefully they can get a replacement built; yes I know that they still have Daedalus but we never seem to see it except on Atlantis.
I am a bit surprised at how the Prometheus went about attacking the weapon. Given that it was built with input and help from the Ori I would have thought they'd have been a bit more careful. Hyper out when it started powering up, and then come back and then stay on the far side of the planet from the sat while trying to extract Jackson.
Heck, why stay anywhere near the weapon (belief in the power of your shields or not) if you aren't executing an immediate attack. They'd have been better off launching missiles or X-302s and hypering out as quick as possible. If the weapon was as weak as Carter predicted nothing would be lose except maybe some pride, but you'd have covered your bases if it turned out to be tougher than anticipated. (Or if it was a trap designed to lure an attacking ship close and then take it out in a massive explosion).
Heck for that matter, they could have started off by targeting the HQ. Even though the Prometheus's Asgard beaming tech will still have the no-live-weapons protocols in place, I assume that if they had started out attempting a full scale attack they would have been capable of using the transport rings to dump a large bomb directly into the command bunker, which would have disabled satellite control (Although they might not have known that for sure initially).
The point is basically anything would have been smarter than sitting around where new weapon of unknown but significate power had a clean shot at you. Even if you weren't planning to attack it and didn't think the other side was likely to fire, why stay where you could be targeted if you don't have to?

I missed the "Ethon" reference. Was that Ernie Hudson? I thought his name started with a G.

Ethon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethon) must have referred to the satellite, since it destroyed Prometheus.

I wonder if the Daedalus scooped up the weapon when it checked out the planet. If everybody's toast on the planet then there wouldn't be anybody there to power it up so it should be safe to approach/transport. Figuring out how it cut through their shields so easily might be kind of important...

why not transport the weapon somewhere else (before it shot them)?
that's a good point about going back and collecting it now that everyone is dead...

It would have been nice if Sam explained how she beamed away at the last second. They offered no explanation. She clearly wasn't leaving from her last scene, and then she magically appears a few scenes later.

I thought it was a pretty boring episode.
In a way, I'm glad they blew up the Prometheus. It always looked like a vacuum cleaner in space to me. Maybe they can get a new ship now.
I hadn't thought about them going back to get the weapon. At least that would have given the episode a purpose in the overall arc of the season.

I'm surprised it never occured to anybody (including, I guess, the writers) that if the super-weapon can blow through shields, chances are in order to fire it has to DROP ITS SHIELDS...

Huh? If the weapon can blow through Asgard shields, presumably it can blow through its own just as easily.
Or perhaps the sheilds are unidirectional (like a one-way mirror), only reflecting/disippating outside energy. Even the shields on Star Trek were one-way... the Enterprise didn't have to lower its shields to fire!

I liked it fun and I like when the good guys take one on the chin. It only adds to how bad ass the ori really are.

To me, that's the fault of the writers. Half of Sam's lines and almost all of Tealc's are pure exposition. First everybody has to stand around and tell you the back story. Then they have to tell you why they're doing what they're doing. Then Sam has to explain whatever doohicky she pulled out of her butt to save the day.
Was the Prometheus current, state of the art Asgardian technology or some obsolete tin can they had laying around?
You really suck as a commander if your battleship gets blowed up by a weapon that takes five minutes to recharge.

Not really--they had faith in their Asgardian shields, and their intel suggested that the station wasn't shielded itself. After the first shot from the station took the Prometheus out, it was just a matter of whether Ori Goon would show mercy.

I also thought it was pretty arrogant of them to sit there and allow the station to shoot at them when they already knew their intel was faulty. It was reasonable to take a potshot at the station thinking it had no shields, but when their shot had no affect they should have gone to hyperspace. They knew for 5 minutes that they were going to be fired upon and they knew for a couple of minutes that their intel was faulty.

Actually it's first-generation, not quite state of the art Earth technology. That of course is based on the little bit of tech that the Asgard have allowed us to have.

I love the fact that we don't mind getting a technological handout from more advanced races but we get all "Prime Directive" when others ask us for help. Of course, usually it's for a good reason but stll....

What was the deal with the general not being there? Can they only afford Beau Bridges for X number of episodes or something? Or is he going to come back the next episode and tear them a new one for running out and destroying the Prometheus.

Slightly off topic, but the whole "Where was Beau Bridges" got me thinking.
Wasn't RDA supposed to be still in the show...albeit in reduced form? So far we've only seen him once in the office, and it was questionable if he and Michael Shanks (I think I got that right) were actually there at the same time! Wasn't he supposed to be working one week out of four/month? If so, shouldn't we have seen him a bit more? Or did they decide to kick him to the curb?
(I don't particularly care if he's gone or not, I'm just curious!)

The one-week-a-month bit was last year. Now, he's gone for good, although there can always be guest appearances.

He's busy shooting Super Bowl commercials. :)
Speaking of.... now that he's "retired from the military", he seems to have put on some weight.
