I noticed this season they are never in the caves anymore. The characters are always in the beach and the bunker. Were the caves cut in the budget. Still a good season.

Not sure where they went. But I remember reading last year that a reason *for* the caves was the budget: the cave scenes are shot in a studio which is cheaper and easier than on-location beach scenes.

Yeah I think the caves were introduced to keep production costs down. Maybe the show has been such a hit that they've been okay with the higher production costs of the outdoor locales.

Perhaps. I also remember there was talk about execs wanting to movie Lost's production completely out of Hawaii because it's so expensive there. They were even scouting locations down south and in Florida. Thank gawd that never happened. Just wouldn't look the same.

EDIT: Do a google for "lost production costs hawaii"

Maybe they had to tear down the cave set to build the hatch set?

I would imagine the hatch & the cave cost about the same. Sure the cave had the standing and running water, and lots of growing things, but the hatch has a BIG GIANT MAGNET!!! hehehehe

That was my theory as well. I say good riddance - the caves sucked IMO.

Gee - maybe after the second collapse, they just decided that it was safer not to hang out in the caves.
