View Full Version : A boring Locked Quantum Question

Everything I have read to date says a "locked" quantum will show about 9MB when hooked to PC. As a matter of fact I read that if it shows something other than 9-10 MB then STOP.

When I hooked mine (fireball) up I saw 6 GiG Plus readout when I looked in my BIOS....... (i.e 6xxx MB).. The drive is actually a 30 hour Series one (SVR2000) and working to my knowledge.... At least it came out working and has been in a foil wrap for two years.

Without "unlocking" it I tried MFS to copy the image to my C drive.... Didn't work... didn't get off the ground......

I have a three year old ABIT Motherboard with a "new" enough BIOS to handle a 250 GIG. All Bios settings are set to AUTO.... I tried some manual settings and got the cylinders to change but not the 6 Gig capacity..

Before I just try this and that, I thought maybe somebody could get me on the right track..

Thanks

Al

Use diskutil rather than qunlock to unlock your drive. Once unlocked you will be able to determine whether drive is good or not.

Thanks funtoupgrade

The drive is toast, saw your remark to another query where you said try something like Partition Magic.... Brilliant.... Doesn't take long to figure it out with the right tools.

One thing ..... Are there any user instructions for Diskutil..... I ended up typing diskutil.exe /0......( drive was in master IDE 0) . then diskutil.exe /tempunlock......

type diskutil.exe/PermUnlock 0
The capital letters matter.
