And several seasons are available on DVD. And there's a feature film. It's amazing that you found this and love it so much at this point in its run.

And my favorite overall saying is Out-of-control-child Cartman's "Whatever, whatever, I do what I want!" :D

The Christmas episodes are the best.

Red Sleigh Down
Christmas In Canada
Woodland Critters Christmas

All classics along with the Mister Hankey Christmas episodes. :)

My favs are usually not listed among the "classics" but never fail to crack me up:

Chirstmas In Canada - spoof on Wizard of Oz, with OZ being Canada, surprise and topical ending which I won't give away.

Osama Bin Laden has poopie pants (or something like that) - Also very topical. Watch for the Looney Toons / Bugs Bunny spoof toward the end with Cartman, and lots of dissing of Stevie Nicks.

The MOVIE (Bigger Longer and Uncut) is just great. They show it late at night sometimes, without the bleeps, but of course it's better to watch on DVD. I guarantee you will be singing a few of the songs for a few days afterwards.

Episode Guide (http://epguides.com/SouthPark/)

There are a total of 139 episodes over 9 seasons (so far). Unlike most network t.v. shows, a season of South Park is usually only about 12-13 episodes, instead of 22-24. That probably made sense at first when they really were using paper cutouts for every frame, but today, everything is done on computer, and the creators say they lash together an episode from scratch in about a week. I suppose the shorter seasons mean they can keep coming up wth fresh ideas (sometimes-- compare "Jared Has Aides" with "Trapped in the Closet"-- same gag), but also means that episodes are re-run hundreds of times.

Full season DVDs are available up through season 7, so if you're really that into it, you can own all but the last two dozen or so episodes.

As for my favorites, I really liked "Not Without My Anus" at the beginning of season 2, partly because I like the complete absurdity of it, and partly because of the circumstances surrounding its initial airing.

Few things make me laugh out loud, and South Park does it every now and then.

The other day they showed an episode where Cartman thinks he is dead because the guys decide to ignore him. The things they do to Butters or whatever his name is are hilarious.. you see this aparatus approaching his rear end, cut to a full face shot and he shaking around... just crazy! :D

But obviously Cartman makes the show.

The taking poop gets me in a bad mood. I find it beyond stupid.

Even Though I love this show- I HATE  THE TALKING POOP. It is beyond BEYOND retarded! And that's what most people think of when they watch this show! Too bad- far better episodes than that. And anbother one of my favorite's is Butter's Own Show ("It's Butter! uh..eh.. "That's ME!") :p

I like how topical the shows can be. The one that always cracks me up is the trapper-keeper episode where the elementary school class is voting for class president and how they keep demanding recounts, "Flora" is undecided, and then they need to wait for the absent kid to come in to vote. Just that it was so clever and came out like a week or 2 after the election was amazing.

I think most of the best ones are the Cartman/Butters relationship ones; besides the aforementioned Scott Tenomman and Cartman's Dead episodes, I also like Casa Bonita and AWESOM-O. Cartman's plotting just plays off of Butters' innocence better than the rest of the boys.

And we can't forget the time Cartman ordered Sea Men (brine shrimp), put them in Ms. Choksondik's coffee cup and morbid hilarity ensued. His sweet little song about the men under the sea was touching until the report came back from the coroner's office. :)

The one where they all wear condoms was very funny also...

The one with Kenny's "vegetable" state was right around the lady here in Fla they wanted to stop feeding as well...

../probably made sense at first when they really were using paper cutouts for every frame, but today, everything is done on computer...My understanding is that they considered using paper cutouts at the beginning, but started -- even with the very first pre-episode (the Santa Claus short pre-show demo) -- on computer.

The reason I believe this is because I worked at SGI at the time South Park started, and I had heard Matt and Trey used an SGI Indy workstations with SGI software to create that first episode. As one of my SGI employees commented when forwarding me the demo, "It's good to know that one of the market segments we can compete against and win is paper and glue."

But perhaps that guy didn't know what he was talking about.

One notable episode was the one that ran the week after the Elian Gonzales rescue (quote unquote if you must). They had totally rewritten and reshot the planned episode to feature an identical rescue scene in about 2 or 3 days.

There's really so many funny episodes and scenes I can't pick a favorite. I got a real kick out of the one where Cartman wants to go to Casa Bonita so bad. It was extra funny for me because I had just taken my daughter to Casa Bonita for the first time earlier in the week that the show had aired. Terrible food, but where else can you be entertained by cliff divers while you're eating...in Denver.

I also laughed a lot at the episode with J-Lo. My God Cartman was funny in that one!

I like the ones that center around the kids just being kids and trying to make sense of the adult world. The ones where they try to hard to make political points (like the rainforest one or the Virgin Mary one) usually fall flat for me.

The Return of the King thing mentioned above was a great example. I also loved the one where they were trying to climb to heaven to find Kenny because they wanted some ticket or something from him, but all the adults were thinking they were just sad and missing him.

They're cute when they take their hats off.

There are two different types of South Park episodes that i like.

First you have the just flat out good episodes like Scott Tenorman, or Return of The Lord Of The Rings To The Two Towers.

Then you have the ones that are just so "I can't believe they did that", like The Mormon episode, and the Jennifer Lopez Episode.

The topical episodes are usually really good, like ****** and Turd.

Wow, I learned something new from you today! I thought "Casa Bonita" was just something Trey and Matt totally made up, it was such a crazy, stupid-sounding place! I figured they were just spoofing Chuck E. Cheese type of kid-tastic restaurants. They actually DO have cliff divers??? For anyone else as surprised as me, here's their website:

Scott Tenorman Must Die: was fabulous!
I love all of the Christmas ones.
All About the Mormons?: dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.
Cartman's Silly Hate Crime: Couldn't stop laughing when they played the "Oz" music.
The Biggest ****** in the Universe: Ladies and Gentlemen.... John Edward
Simpsons Already Did It: As mentioned by others, Cartman's Sea People were funny has hell!

I did the same thing the night the episode aired.

After the episode I wondered if it were a real place or just made up sort of mushing the Chuck E Cheeses and the Rainforest Cafe's of the world together.

Much to my surprise... it's real. Looks like a place I'd love to have around here... and I'd certainly visit in the unlikely event that I'm ever in Denver.

I wonder if they got a spike in business from the episode. I know that the movie Sideways actually made a decent impact on the wine industry.

But perhaps that guy didn't know what he was talking about.

I got my info from Matt and Trey's commentaries on* the first season DVDs. Granted, it's been a couple of years since I listened to them, but I seem to recall them saying that the first ep. ("Cartman Gets an Anal Probe") was done with cutouts as a pilot for Comedy Central, and once they got it picked up, they could afford to do future episodes on computers. All subsequent episodes were done with steadily decreasing amounts of cutouts, and increasing amounts of computer animation. They explained that the toughest thing to do was to get the computerized images to have the same apparent texture as the construction paper. By the last few episodes of the first season, they were doing 100% of the animation by computer.

As for Casa Bonita, not only is it real, but it's essentially identical, inside and out, to how it is depicted in the episode. In fact, if you look carefully when they finally get there, you'll notice that the businesses across the street from Casa Bonita are liquor stores and pawn shops, which is exactly like the semi-seedy neighborhood that the real C.B. is in. Given the huge size of the place and the layout and decor of the dining area, the whole experience is probably a bit closer to eating at one of the dopier restaurants at Disneyland than it is to a Chuck E. Cheese, but the food is school-cafeteria mexican at best.

*The commentaries were recorded, but Warner Bros. refused to put them on the discs because of their content. (I don't remember if it was just because of bad language or insults directed at certain people or companies.) For a while, Comedy Central gave away CDs with the commentaries on them, but I don't know if you can get them any more.
