While at one time I would have been really disappointed by this news, this season has been one in which I really haven't missed the show at all.

It used to be must have TV, now it's an afterthought. Thanks a ton Bennifer.

Well, go figure. Due to a crowded lineup, for the first time I was ignorning Alias and was planning on catching it when it comes to DVD (as I am also going to do with Smallville). I guess I don't have to worry about it now.....

Burn in hell F......er....ABC.

Was anyone still watching this show? Not even Jennifer Garner's extreme hotness could make this watchable IMO. I haven't bothered with an episode since the "amnesia" at the end of the second season. I did catch a few minutes of one ep a few weeks back and saw that apparently the entire Bristow family is now in the CIA. Sydney, her dad, her mom, her sister, etc.

Considering that ABC doesn't mind cancelling a show after one week, I am pretty sure that a spot will open up on the schedule at one point or another.

On the one hand I am not surprised, since Alias was hardly pulling stellar numbers, although if the show is still in production I assume we'll see the remainder of the episodes at some point. But on the other hand I am still not surprised, since ABC has developed a track record for this sort of thing. I wonder if Commander in Chief fans (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=284638) are more worried now.

ABC really screwed Alias when it switched nights. It had much increased numbers when it had Lost as a lead-in and then with the new season they had to change its place in the lineup. I'm sure they will find a slot to finish up the season.

Well, "Commander in Chief" may be cancelled by then, leaving room for "Alias" to finish its run.

That's part of the problem this season. She's been pregnant and has lost a whole lot of the "hotness factor." Add to that the fact that the plots have become (even more) ridiculous and the serial nature of the show has basically been abandoned, and it's just not a very good show anymore. I'm still not caught up on the eps from the first part of this season and I've had plenty of time to do it.

Having said that, I'd still like to see how they end the show. Since it's already in syndication and everyone is under contract, I'm sure they'll finish shooting the show and eventually we'll see the finale. If ABC can't fit it in before the end of the season, I'm sure they'll burn them off in the summer.

Yeah, the pregnant undercover agent was beyond silly. Not that the show was ever based in any reality, but come on, she's not going to get in the line of fire with her unborn child.

I also want to see how they finish it. JJ has promised a good finale, we'll see. One of the other problems I've had with the show is the fact that they've reinvented the secret agency too many times. I get the irony of the new girl, but it's not enough to sustain an entire season.

That said, it's still one of my all time favorite series, and recent warts and all I'll sadly miss it when it's gone.

Oh and I choose Black. :D

I haven't watched since the beginning of S4 when she joined that black ops unit with Sloane as her boss again. I had been frustrated with how ridiculous S3 got and was hoping they'd get the show back on track with S4. Alas, in S4 it just just got worse. You could have made a drinking game out of how many times she'd get all huffy and say to Sloane, "I hate you! I'll never trust you!".

meh.

i have the dvd's from s1 to s3. i'm not sure if i want to waste my money on s4 and s5. which sucks, because i'm still a fan of the series, it's just that i wouldn't watch those seasons again.

favorite preggo part was when they were on the car magnet, and she was hanging from the magnet from one arm, and on the other was the mini-sydney dangling. and she was unbelievably pregnant.

Could someone remind me what happened in the last episode aired?

Was it that the mother returned, they showed her, and it ended? I can't remember. Thanks. I hope it comes back to finish out.

Black or Red?

I loved the dialogue that went with this scene.

Sydney (after changing into the red one at the bad guy's request): "What was wrong with the black one?" (As she's punching him while in the bedroom of the private jet.)

They were extracting memories from her then they showed that the "voice" was indeed Irina Derevko.

I could possibly be more upset at ABC over this than Fox taking Arrested Development off (becuase it's likely to come back.) They do this to new shows all the time, but a show that's 4 1/2 years old that they promised a finale for? I may have to find out who handed down this decision and go stalker on them.

Oh, there's no doubt in my mind that they'll show the last run. It's just a question of when (kmaybe they'll burn them over the summer, which would actually work for me--at least there'll be something to watch!).

It could be that ABC realized that people have already forgotten what has happened this season (as evidenced by this thread), and they now want to show some of the previous episodes before going into the new episodes. I can see them finding some 2 hour block on the schedule and showing 2 older episodes a night until they catch up again... of course, that block probably won't be available until closer to summer.

I think that's part of it, but really after season 2, the writing just went way down hill. Loved the first 2 seasons, then it just got weird.

You know, I'd be totally fine if they just filmed the remaining episodes and put them on DVD. That'd probably be the only way I'd get the season 5 DVD.

I agree. No doubt they'll air them, just a question of when.

And I wouldn't mind a summer burn-off at all either.

I'll be really mad if they don't decide to air the rest of the season. I really like this new season so far.

I like how they left it off the last episode where Sydney is stuck on a tanker in the middle of nowhere.

Red.

Last season bored the crap out of me. This season, I wasn't even going to bother, but Amy Acker dinged my pseudo-WishList. I think new girl Rachel plus Amy Acker had enough of a hotness factor for me to watch it. I still think it was stupid. But it was watchable.

Amy Acker... >sigh<

Their order was cut from 22 to 17 episodes and it's expected to return mid-April on Wednesdays. Full details in the link above.

Here's my supposition for the final 8 installments when it returns (this not having watched this season at all).......

Sloane turns out to be working for an evil syndicate, known as the Dharma Initiative, and he ends up crashing on a little remote Island 1000 miles off the coast of Australia.

;)

I dare ya JJ, do a crossover episode........

I guess they'll spend some of that setting up the spin-off for Sloane, Sark and Peyton (Amy Acker).

More details at E! Online (http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Archive2006/060224.html) (mild spoilers therein). Apparently the show's producers are worried that ABC will cut the order even further, so they've developed an even-more expedited storyline to wrap the series, if necessary.

This close to the end, to cut the order just seems ridiculous. I can't imagine the show is a money loser, even if it isn't a huge profit center for the network... to cut the order for the last episodes of the last season just seems that it's ABC's way of flipping them off.

Lame. I don't even know if I'm interested in watching the last episodes anymore, if they're just going to do a rush job to finish off the story. It'd be like getting halfway through a book, then... "... Then, some other stuff happened. The end." Um. Thanks?

Disgusting. Just as I feared. 4 and 1/2 years in and we can't even have a decent ending? I'm sure they'll be able to pack those 8 episodes full of material (but how many have already been shot?) but 13 would've been much better.

Droobiemus
02-28-2006, 07:50 PM
Hmm, you know, I just thought of something: If they did something cool with the last two episodes, like made them both two hours, then we'd still be getting roughly the same as a full season, plus or minus an ep or two.

But somehow, I don't see that happening.

I'm amazed by the reaction, here. ABC doesn't need Alias. I think it is quite admirable -- even generous (to fans) -- for them to present any more episodes.

Bicker, that's absolutely ridiculous! They've had us watch this for 4 1/2 years. Networks that just cancel long running shows like that without giving them a finale is despicable.

"They" haven't "had" you watch -- you decided to watch. Take personal accountability for your own actions. No one owes you anything.

I just wish that networks wouldn't screw around with their viewers. They ordered x number of episodes and should stick with it. Period, end of discussion.

Aren't they going to show the rest of the episodes? They did say as I read that they are returning April 19th as previously mentioned, and with a 2 hour episode.

<snip> Networks that just cancel long running shows like that without giving them a finale is despicable.

I agree 100%. The cancellations of shows I watched without allowing them to wrap up the story has changed the way I watch TV more than TiVo has. (if that's possible :) )

When I buy a book, I don't rip out the last few chapters and throw them away before I begin to read. When I watch a movie, I don't get up and leave in the last act (I have regretted that decision a few times though :D )

Some of us out there only watch shows religiously. Either a I watch a show, or I don't... unlike some of my co-workers who really like a show (example: Gray's Anatomy) but will only watch it every once and a while)

We'd like to put trust (yeah right) into the network to at least allow the show creators/writers to finish the story the best they can when cancelled.

Now days... I won't even watch a new show now till a second season has been ordered (Lost being the only recent exception but even then I wouldn't watch until 5 episodes in and it was gaining in popularity.)

At the beginning of the last 2 seasons I've set up SPs for new shows I'm interested in (not many) and I will keep recording episodes until they're picked up... if they're not... I delete. Why waste my time?

And even then there's no guarantee the network will wrap up a show... (Joan of Arcadia)

I'm glad ABC is allowing JJ & clan to wrap up the story.

And of course posts like these still make me say... BURN IN HELL FOX!

bicker

Some of us out there only watch shows religiously. Some, yes, and I believe that's the point. As a group, viewers are not very loyal. We don't show much loyalty to the networks, so they don't show much loyalty to us. Fair is fair.

What's nice is that this varies over time. Right now we're in a high point: Networks are focusing on arc-driven shows more than in years past. (This is probably due to the effect of DVD sales.) Be happy. In a few years, viewers' lives will get busy again, and viewer loyalty will decrease again, and we'll have far fewer shows that warrant watching every week without fail.
