Does anyone have any experience with a 3rd party programmable remote that has the ability to operate through a cabinet?

I have a DTV HD Tivo (HD-250, or something like that) and the best place for me to put it is inside of a cabinet that's about 3/4 inch pine. Quickly looking online, I see numerous remote devices that operate through walls/floors/etc (why would you really want to do that?? oh well, that's another question)

Anyway - does anyone have any experience with any of these devices that might work for what I want?

thanks.

I have a DTV HD Tivo (HD-250, or something like that) and the best place for me to put it is inside of a cabinet that's about 3/4 inch pine. It's the HR10-250. If your cabinet does not have adequate ventilation, then it is not the BEST place for your receiver. It will quickly over-heat and fail.

You can use a small IR sensor like this (http://www.smarthome.com/8130W.html). Combine that with a connecting block (http://www.smarthome.com/8191.html) and an emitter (http://www.smarthome.com/8160s.html). You are all set to use any remote including your 'peanut' that came with the receiver.

I see numerous remote devices that operate through walls/floors/etc (why would you really want to do that?? Because my HR10-250, GXCEBOT (series 1 DirecTivo), DVD players, VCR and most of my audio equipment are in the theater room while most of my viewing and my speakers are in the living room. Now, I'm not depriving myself of the theater experience either. My HT also has a full sound system and shares the Tivos and DVD players. It just takes creativity and a couple thousand feet of wiring to get everything working correctly.

Plenty do, and they generally work fine. I don't know if you can get simple wired repeaters or need to get a wireless repeater.

The Logitech Harmony 890 is made for this but will set you back $399.00.

This is all you need:

I have one, and it works great. No new remote needed. Just two power outlets. An no heat either!

Yeah, but I wouldn't use Radio Shack. I have the Terk Leapfrog set up in two different rooms and it works really well. In my kitchen I have the transmitter on top of my tv, and the receiver across the room in a cabinet with a door, with the Tivo. The short IR cable conveys the signal from the receiver to the Tivo's IR sensor. It's fun to challenge people to "find the Tivo"!

I was in the market for the same thing a year or so ago. We have a Hitachi projector with a 100-inch screen Elite screen. Our components were behind the screen and we needed a remote to go thru the screen. We tried several that were supposed to go thru anything and up to 50 feet. However, nothing really worked for us, and in the end we ended up moving the components.

If you do find such a remote, please let me know for future reference.
