After having Thompson TiVo for over five years, I am trying to upgrade to a 160Gig drive. I am not bothered about the 137Gig limit at present.

The Quantum drive was locked, and I succesfully unlocked it using qunlock.

when I type mount dev/hda1 /mnt/dos

I get

dev/hsa1: Success
mount: you must specify the filesystem type

What does this mean?

I then enter the backup command (always the optomist)

goes through scanning source drive etc, reports sizes 39 hours
uncompressed size: 1107 megabytes

and eventually I get

Backup failed: /mnt/dos/tivo.bak: Success

Where do I go from here.

Thanks in advance

Pete

Even though your syntax above appears correct, that error is very common when you don't actually type it correctly when doing your backup... I am speaking from experience, the error is because the "1" was left off the mount command. It has happened to all of us. Please be sure you have included every single letter in your command line.

One night it took me about 30 minutes to figure out what the problem was... and it was that simple.

Thanks,

I shall try again.

Dont know if it helps, but it starts to do a backup, but stops at about 5%. Do you know if it cache's the files to RAM and then writes to the other drive?

I got a pal who is a bit good at LINUX, and he did try to help over the phone, but still fails to complete a backup.

Cheers

Pete
