Can I use a DirecTV Tivo box w/cable?

I'm about to switch from DirecTV to cable - in order to get local channels in HD. My question is will I be able to use my Tivo boxes with the cable service? I realize I won't be able to record in HD with Tivo, that I'll have to use the cable company's box to do that - but will my Tivo boxes be of any use to me? Or, will I have to park them?

Also, will I be able to use them simply to play back shows already recorded after I make the switch?

Nope. they work with DTV only. BUt you will be able to play old recordings.

You will be able to watch shows you already recorded, though.
