View Full Version : Upgrade question
Will the weaknees boot CD work on a Tivo drive that has already been upgraded? I have an upgraded tivo with a 120GB drive in it. After almost 2 years, I want to upgrade it again to a 300GB drive. I saw in the instructions that it will work on a stock TIVO only, does that mean not upgraded? The restore fails if I try to do the upgrade from the 120GB drive. It works fine though if I use the original 60GB drive. The error message I get says that the target drive is not large enough for the entire backup. Again, it works for the original 60GB drive.
Thanks

You are correct and your testing has proved this out - one upgrade only.

You can do the upgrade to the 300GB drive if you use the original 60GB drive as the source. At least that's the way that I understand it. You can not do an upgrade from an upgrade. If you want to save shows, you'll need to transfer them to another tivo or a computer using tivotogo then upgrade, then copy the shows back.

Thanks everyone, you have all saved me many hours of frustration! My upgrade went smoothly from the 60GB drive to the 250GB, and I am now the proud owner of a 290 hour Tivo! One more upgrade to go! (Installing a 300GB drive in my 40HR too!)

I was able to upgrade from an upgrade, if I understand this thread. I had an original 40r AT&T series2 model. Upgraded with a 120 and 80 GB hard drive set. Then earlier, this week I upgraded to two 200GBs. Problem was that it didn't recognize the full capacity. Only 322 hrs for two 200s, although in Tivo it said I had 339 hours. Took it out, tried to redo it and also increase the swap and now nothing works! I put back in the old A+B and they work fine (for now since the A is dying) so I know it's not the actual unit that is the problem. Both 200s were brand new. I have no idea what I did to get it to work in the first place and now I can't get it to work again.
Now I am searching for an image for my original so maybe that will work. I guess I just got lucky?
