Hi All,

Just got a new Samsung 50' DLP HDTV Sunday and am experiencing some problems with video quality. My last TV which was a Sony 32' and the R10 worked great. No artifacts or pixels when viewing live or recorded tv. Now that I have this setup, I'm seeing a lot of artifacts and pixels while viewing shows (recorded and live). I've tried RCA cables and S-Video with the same result. If I watch a DVD, it looks beautiful so I know it's something with the R10. I've got the TV and R10 both set for 16:9 and have tried various things with the R10 with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try and make this experience better? It sucks spending $2000 on a TV and these things like this are happening.

Thanks!
Matt

Standard def programming isn't going to look great on a HD set, especially one that size. You really should get an HD receiver to take advantage of a $2000 set.

Make it look even better: get a DVD player with an HDMI output; it will upscale DVDs to 720p or 1080i.

SD definition satellite is poorer quality than DVD, which is poorer than HD. Your new TV is nearly twice as big as your old one - which means all the warts are nearly twice as large - and it is HD, which means all the warts are clearer. The best you can do until you get an HD source for your HD TV is turn down the brightness and contrast settings to soften the image, which will make the blockiness less apparent. Also, don't sit too close.

Check out the DLP section of the Display Devices section of AVSForums; you'll find some threads about your TV and how people deal with this and other issues.

Well, no wonder! I don't know what resolution you'd need for a 50 foot television. :D

Do you know Weird Al Yankovic and are you Frank? One of his best original songs is _Frank's 2000" TV_ which is about 167 feet.

"The picture's crystal clear and everything is magnified
Robert DeNiro's mole has got to be ten feet wide
Everybody in the town
Can hear those 90,000 watts of Dolby sound
And I'm mighty proud to say
Now I can watch "The Simpsons" from thirty blocks away"
