View Full Version : [Some] Guide Info Missing; Season Passes not Recording

The Hughes HDVR2 in my bedroom is doing something strange. I noticed that the guide info beyond roughly 18 hours is missing on most of the channels--it's random, which means that it happens on all the channels at various times. When I pull up the program guide to, say, see what's on A&E, or one of my local channels 24 hours from now, some of the cells are populated with info while others are not. What seems even stranger is that while some guide cells are not populated with info, others following a particular time slot(s) are. For instance, Sunday night I advanced the guide to record "Flight 93" on A&E Monday evening. Well, those cells in the program guide were blank, but the ones following that time slot were not. On the History Channel right below A&E, that time slot's cell was populated, but ones before and after were not; and so on...

Worse, I've noticed that this lack of guide info on certain channels at certain times has resulted in one of my season passes to not record. For example, last night my bedroom HDVR2 was supposed to have recorded 24. That is #1 in that DTIVO's season pass list. It didn't record it (fortunately my primary DTIVO in the living room does), and when I checked everything, the DTIVO recorded history told me something along the lines that it wasn't available. Now, this wasn't way in advance, either.

DTIVO's are supposed to have about 10-14 days of program guide info downloaded into them. This particular unit--all of my other ones are fine--doesn't. I've rebooted it both ways, but that hasn't worked. Everything else on the unit checks out OK. I'm just baffled as to what could be causing this. When I spoke to a DirecTV technician, she couldn't figure it out either and told me she'd send me a free replacement R15. I told her the hell she would. I wasn't going to take a DirecTV DVR. They can pry my DTIVO from my cold, dead hands.

BTW, I did attempt to do a clear & delete reboot, the one where I clear the program data and to-do list. That doesn't seem to have worked, because a scan through the guide over the next 24 hours yields the same result: blank, informationless cells in the program guide.

Anyway...does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sadly... in the past when this has happened to one of my units, it was the hard drive starting to go.

Hard drive? Well, that would suck. Of all my DTIVO's, including my many HDVR2's, this one's the newest and least used, too. I DO have some important recordings still sitting on that drive, too, ones I really don't want to lose, either.

If you did you could move all of the recordings off the dying DVR to the other DVR before it dies.

Actually, I do have that option available. It'll take me some time, but I can do that. I've got to clear some space off my other HDVR2. :)

This past Sunday I noticed only one of my DVR40s didn't have guide data past Tuesday. I was also getting the acquiring program guide data message on the recording setup screens.

I rebooted it and within a day all was back to normal. The unit exhibits no other problems and there are no disk errors reported in the kernel log.

There is one last thing I'll try, per the suggestion of a DTV tech: remove both RG6 cables, unplug the unit for a bit, reconnect the cables, then reboot. This "supposedly" forces the DTIVO to reacquire the sat. info fresh, so to speak. We'll see if this works.

You don't have to disconnect cables but do wait 10-20 minutes. I did this and my guide data repopulated correctly.

I'm assuming you're saying wait 10-20 minutes after unplugging and decabling to reconnect and replug everything?
