Anyone here using a DirecTV-based Tivo on a boat? What special considerations are needed for using one in a marine application?

What antenna options are available?

And is DirecWay internet service available for boats?

Several choices ....

But they're not cheap, starting ~$2000 and up.

But I'm not aware of any two-way DirectWay marine dishes.

And is DirecWay internet service available for boats?Because of the critical alignment needed for DirecWay, the boat would have to be on land. :D
I suspect that any tracking dish for DirecWay would be even more expensive than the ones linked above.

There are a number of mobile DirecTV antennas (antennae?). They are mounted to the rooftops of cars/vans/SUVs and provide live satellite TV while you drive. You lose signal when you drive in places where buildings, trees, etc. obstruct your line-of-sight with the satellites (tunnels aren't real great for reception, either!), but on the open road the signals can be surprisingly good. Marine models are also available, although their design is completely different from the car version. Can't tell you how well they work or how many manufacturers are out there, but you can find information on mobile and marine D* products at

I have no idea how good (or expensive) this specific company's products are, but it was the first result in a Google search for "mobile satellite tv."

While visiting San Diego on several occasions I saw numerous boats/yachts with D* mounted on them. Alot of people live on them year roound so they must deal with ocassional outage when the waves kick up.
