Hi,

From researching the threads and reading about tpip, there seems to be some conflicting comments whether or not the swap size should be greater than 127MB.

I'm thinking about upgrading my 540040 from a 40 to 300gb HD. The Weaknees instructions doesn't have any information regarding ratios for swap size to hard drive space.

Will 127MB be sufficient? I understand some people have said increasing the swap size provides "insurance" from GSOD, however, what are the chances of this happening?

Thanks,
Rob.

* Can someone move this to the upgrade topic?

Yes, you should have 150MB of swap. Running the tpip takes but 3 seconds.

Why? If the Tivo crashes (power failure, whatever) depending on what it was doing at the time it might run a file system check. The way FSCK for Linux is writen it uses swap to examine the disk. If you run out of swap, this won't complete. You will then get a GSOD loop. To get out of this situation is complex and you will most likely loose your recordings.

How much risk is that is up to you. Worst case you loose your recordings, reformat (restore) and go on with life.

Great. Thanks for the info. I'll definitely initialize the swap with tpip.
