Hi all,

I am a newbie and thinking of buying a tivo....firstly a question for all you wise tivo users :)

I currently have Sky Plus and have done for sometime, I also have basic cable here in Milton Keynes.......this friday I will be having a new dish/receiver plugged in to work side by side with Sky - its a satellite package from Orbit I(Arabic company) so that I can get ESPN, ABC, NBC, etc - basically alot of American programming. My question is this - will tivo only be able to record Sky Plus programming or will it also be able to record 'Orbit' programming as well?? If it helps the satellite guy said the Orbit wiring (coming from dish) will be going into back of Sky box (new receiver has UHF out) so we can get it upstairs as well (currently have Sky in bedroom as well)???

Any ideas I would be very grateful for.....I am just about to cancel Sky Plus on Sky and am confused about what recording device I should go for, I had not even realised tivo was over in the UK until I did a search - must tell my American buds as they swear by this system.

Thanks again for any replies and help I receive :)

You can manually record almost anything on TiVo - but you will only get programme listings for official UK platforms (Sky, DTT, cable)

Are you sure you will be using your Sky box to view Orbit? When using the Sky box to view other non-Sky packages it has only very limited functionality. It takes 3 button presses just to change station!

Also what satellite will you be viewing Orbit from. The signal is pretty weak in the UK. I can see America Plus from Arabsat but the Arabic subtitles get annoying.

The original post said a new receiver for orbit which would then by on RF thru the Sky box.

Ooops sorry, never read it right. This bit throw me "Orbit wiring (coming from dish) will be going into back of Sky box" Thought he meant the dish would connect to the Sky box.

However still would like to know size of dish and what satellite Orbit is being received on. Tried again on my 1 metre dish but only a few of the strong Orbit channels being received here in Birmingham, UK.
