I purchased one of the reconditioned $15 DirecTivos yesterday for the bedroom and had a question regarding it's physical position.

I have a 20" DVD/TV combo sitting in our armoire about eye level if you are standing. There is not much room to lay this new unit down next to it so my options are lay it on top of the TV or stand the DVR up on it's side right next to the TV.

My standard e25 reciever is doing just that, standing on it's side next to the tv. The problem with the top of the TV is that it is so curvey that I would have to put a piece of wood to create a make-shift shelf.

I would prefer the unit to be up on it's side but if you guys tell me that vibration would be an issue, etc..... I will have to figure something else out.

Thanks in advance!

A hard drive doesnt care where it is, as long as its not being moved physically. Many people put HD's on their sides.

Ventilation, ventilation, ventilation. As long as you have free flow of air through the unit and the internal temps don't rise above the low 40s, you should be OK. Also make sure that the unit can't fall over.

Thanks for the replies. I realize that the hard drive could care less of being on it's side and ventilation is not going to be a problem. I was more concerned with vibration since the unit will not be resting on the little rubber feet.

I'll stick some velcro on the side of the tv and the bottom of the DTivo and that should secure it well enough from a possible tip over.

Thanks!

Put it so the power supply is up. It's on the right. Don't block any of the vent holes.
