I've been having a quirky problem with my remote lately. Once a day or so it will slowly stop controlling the tivo and tv. you have to push the buttons over and over before it will do anything. Then it will get to the point where it can't control the tivo at all and can barely control the tv. Curious as to whether it was the tivo or the remote, I reset the tivo and it started working fine again, on both the tv and tivo. I know that tivo dosen't change anything with the remote so I that would lead me to believe it is the remote, but then why does resetting the tivo fix it every time?

BTW, it's a phillips hdr31201. I have telnet, ftp and tivoweb installed.

If that's really reliable, then my guess would be that the TiVo is getting into a state in which it is blasting IR into the room pretty much all the time. If this is the case, when this happens, all of your other remotes should seem flaky too.

It doesn't seem to be a problem with my other remotes, plus I don't have IR running on the Tivo as it's on CATV with no box.

Anyway. The TV control part of the remote never stops, just gets sluggish but the tivo can't be controlled at all after a while. Maybe I'm looking at a bad remote? Could the IR receiver on the tivo be going?

Well there's still the front panel blaster, but if other remotes aren't affected... I got nothin...

Why does the tivo have a blaster on the front? I don't see any point in that?

Because some people don't follow the directions and hook up the IR blaster ;)
