I, too, am very happy with my TiVos. :up: :up: :up: Now if only I could figure out how to get my DVD collection onto a big server (will have to be multi terabyte) and to use my TiVos to serve them to my house... But that's a project for another year.

We are IN LOVE with our new Series 2 and Harmony remote. We cannot imagine life without TiVo. Best money we've ever spent.

"Why don't you just transfer those shows to your laptop and we'll watch them on the road? Oh, I forgot, you can't do that with your cable DVR, can you?"

Heck, I want my *Tivos* to talk to a big server.

Dream scenario: Each Tivo has a relatively small drive locally to make recordings to, then automatically moves the recordings to the server. If the server is full, it keeps the recordings locally. (Bonus points -- the Tivos talk to each other and the server to do cooperative scheduling so I have one SP list for all Tivos and it just figures everything out, I don't have to manually set up non-conflicting SPs on each machine.)

Especially with a server I can just plop more $100 Fry's drives onto as time goes by and I need/want more storage.

It'd be easy enough to just use existing computers as bulk storage space for shows (the next version of the desktop software will support automatic transfers no? and I think Galleon does already) IF... transfers weren't so mind-numbingly slow. Biggest disappointment about my new TiVo was that, otherwise I'm pretty darn happy with it so far.

I currently have one of our PC's hooked up to the living room HD set, mainly because TiVo's ability to talk to them is limited. With the imminent arrival of an Xbox 360, things may get switched around a little bit. I might actually (shudder) buy media center for that pc. *feels dirty, runs to shower off the windoze scum*

Set all the recordings so none are KUID and they'll push off the TiVo as needed.

I'm not talking about using a PC (generically -- really I'd want to use a Mac).

I'm talking about using some kind of network attached storage, and/or a Tivo-server box.

Any custom device would almost certainly cost more. You can build a PC with a giant RAID array, and if you want to keep it really simple stick a bare-bones Linux install and Galleon on there and just treat it like a NAS.
