Is that just an encoder. Because I do all my editing with TMPGEnc Dvd author?

I think I read one time that are programs that make the files generic mpeg. You can then use whatever program you want. Search for DirectShow Dump.

already use directshow dump. but TiVo's mpeg files are not dvd compliant. 480x480 isn't a dvd standard so when I put the dvd into my dvd player the video is off centered. That is why I asked for an encoder (MYdvd does this fir you that's why it takes so long, it is encoding the file to dvd specs).

I have used: Cyberlink, Nero, Sonic, even MovieMaker (free with Windows). All worked OK for me, but I prefer Cyberlink. Most have a trial version that you can try out.

TMPG Encoder will do what you want. You just pick something like "DVD MPG file" during the wizard.
