Series 2 540 Introduction

I just got a "refurbed" series 2 540.

Does anybody know when it was that they first came out? I'd like to try to figure out just how old the used Hard drive in this thing could possibly be.

Most hard drives have a manufacture date printed on them. Open the TiVo and look it it.

Doing that will needlessly void my warranty.

I don't think any of the series 2 models has "warranty" stickers, who would know if it was opened. I think most of my TiVos were opened before they were powered on.

Most TiVo's typically have a manufacture date on the TSN sticker on the back as well. It could give you a rough idea but being a refurb the HD could have been replaced and should actually be newer.

FWIW, IIRC the 540 was launched July/August 04, its Humax counterpart Sept/Oct the same year.
