I read on the Futon Critic site that "Emily's Reasons Why Not" and "Jake in Progress" have already been pulled from Monday's schedule and are already on cancellation watch. I recorded these, but haven't watched them yet. Were they that bad? Should I just trash them?

Ridiculous how shows are given no chance anymore. One day they'll probably interrupt and cancel shows right in the middle of their premieres because the 'real time' ratings aren't high enough.

Was ABC really expecting Jake to pull huge numbers out of nowhere?

ABC might just be ducking 24's season premiere event. Of course, 24's regular time slot is Monday 9 ET, so I am not sure what ducking 24 for one week accomplishes. And if you're not going to give a show a chance, putting it up against 24 at least allows you to burn off the ones that are already in the can.

ABC was counting on large numbers of viewers of a certain type.

Apparently they're saying my line now, " Where are the Women ? "

Because Heather Graham attracts MEN, not women, and she was who they were pushing, not the story premise. The show WAS geared toward women viewers, but that's not how it was marketed (at least to me).

I actually though both shows were decent.

I thought everybody has read about ABC's plans:

http://medialifemagazine.com/artman/publish/article_2007.asp

“We have incredibly strong shows on Sunday nights in the young female demographic, so the idea is to use that as a promotional basis for the next night,” explains Jeff Bader, executive vice president of ABC Entertainment."

They've been saying this for a long while now !

Next week, ABC will have a rerun of the season premiere of The Bachelor at 9 pm.

I love Heather Graham, but wasn't crazy about Emily. I would watch it again though.

Just goes to show, that beautiful people do not necessarily make for a hit TV show.
(I guess)

Wow - one ep would sure seem like a very short time to see what a show can do. They'll probably air more eps before cancellation, but shows aren't given much time to grow these days.

I didn't see a vast outpouring of love for Emily just after it aired. Poor ratings and no appreciable buzz equals writing on the wall.

I'd be more disappointed to see Jake go, I've really enjoyed the show going back to its first season

Heather was at her best in "Killing me Softly" if you ask me. If your a guy and have not seen this your missing out.

This story says ABC has stopped production on "Emily" after 6 episodes.

Production has been stopped on the show. I think this leaves them five in the can, even if it did well, they probably wouldn't come back before next year.

And I'll second "Killing Me Softly" - whoo
