direct tv HD with vonage

has anyone tried to interface Vonage with the Direct Tv HD by using a phone line connection to the broadband router (Linksys RTP300 with two phone ports) provided by Vonage-Geo

Search this forum for "Vonage". Many have tried, a few have succeeded. It can be hit-or-miss making it work.

But you don't really need a continuous phone connection with a DirecTV DVR after you've completed Guided Setup (and the new R15 DVR doesn't even need one for its setup). Your Guide Data is delivered via satellite, so you'll miss out on ordering PPV movies with your remote.

I have had the DirectTV hd dvr for over a year so I guess the Guided Setup is already done- PPV is not an issue so if I understand correctly I don't need to worry about the phone connection?

That's correct. You don't really need a phone connection. Your DVR might "complain" every so often about "no phone connection", but you can safely ignore/delete its on-screen message.
