Ok used Harmony to transcode a .tivo to regular .mpeg file tonight to try and play it on my son's pc. Windows Media Player 10 complains of a codec error, which is worthless information.

So on a lark I installed a K-lite codec pack. No luck
Removed K-lite pack
started install of Tivo Desktop
complained about no mpeg2 decoder, aha I say

installed powerdvd. No luck playing mpeg file.

Reinstalled Tivo desktop, no luck playing mpeg file

Put in my access key, still no luck playing mpeg file

So what is up? Why won't a "regular" mpg play on my son's machine?

Thanks
Alan

You might have to use the Windows tool to specify which codec to use. You also might try the VLC player which has a builtin codec.

allows you to specify the codec? I've got the mpeg-2 s snooper.

Will check on the VLC player.

Windows video players and codecs are my weakest computer part, something I aim to fix in the coming year.
