I _loved_ this pilot. I laughed harder than I've laughed in a while during a sitcom. Infact more than during Scrubs.

Definitely a keeper for a while.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. I'll definitely keep watching this one around for awhile.

I too thought it was funny, and would like to watch more; however, I don't see it surviving in this time slot once 24 starts.

First 15 minutes: bleh
Second 15 minutes: pretty good.

I'll give it another episode or two to see if it's any good.

Same here. I had a hard time getting into the beginning and kept zapping through it with the FF button. About half way through (once her "reasons") started I suppose) I started laughing. Pretty good.

I would watch Heather Graham ... um trying to think of some monotonous thing that would normally be boring to watch someone do... well you know what I mean. I would watch her do just about anything.

Therefore, I liked the show.

Wow, I was very "meh" about this pilot. I'll give it another week or two but it's not looking good. Certainly it was nowhere near as good as AD or MNIE, and to me it didn't stand out much from most of the rest. There are so many strong 30 minute comedies on right now; you have to bring your A game to get an SP... I think Emily left it at home yesterday :)

Wow, thanks, I thought I was the only one who thought it was meh!! I don't think I laughed once, and the only chemestry I thought worked at all was between Emily and her former secretary who's jealous of her. It seemed like a "PG-13" rated version of Sex In the City but without the R rated sex jokes that added to SITC humor. I'm on the fence about giving this show another chance. I will have a conflict at 9PM Mondays next week anyway with 24 and Las Vegas, so unless this show blew me away, I don't see it replacing one of those two, even on my backup Tivo on my BAD TV.

Where are all the strong 30 minute comedies? AD is on sporadically, but even with that the only ones left are MNIE and, of course, TO. ELC is pretty good too, I guess. I watch TKOQ pretty religiously, but that's mostly out of habit. HIMYM is a favorite of mine, but I understand that's not for everyone. That's only 3 hours a week, 3 and 1/2 if you add MITM.

Oh, for the days of AITF, TMTMS, TBNS, WIC and, of course, T.

Ok, let me take my best shot at this, I think I got them all.

1. Arrested Development
2. My Name is Earl
3. The Office
4. Everybody Loves Chris
5. The King of Queens
6. How I Met Your Mother
7. Malcolm in the Middle (That was a tough one)
8. All in the Family
9. The Mary Tyler Moore Show
10. The Bob Newhart Show
11. WKRP in Cincinnati (Pretty Sneaky)
12. Taxi

What do I win Bob??

Show was OK and if Heather Graham continues to be in tight t-shirts it's a keeper. One thing did bother me, what a horribly stereotypical gay character. Come on I know about 10 gay guys and none of them act like that.

Okay, I can do this...

AD = Arrested Development
MNIE = My Name is Earl
TO = The Office
ELC = ? Do you mean "EHC" - Everybody Hates Chris?
TKOQ = The King of Queens
HIMYM = How I Met Your Mother
MITM = Malcolm in the Middle

...and the classics...

AITF = All in the Family
TMTMS = The Mary Tyler Moore Show
TBNS = The Bob Newhart Show
WIC = WKRP in Cincinnati
T = Taxi

EDIT...ARGH! Finally cracked WIC and I was beaten to it. Dammit!

WKRP... an acronym-within-an-acronym is just not fair. :)

Topic at hand... I'll give the show another chance just because it's HG. I found it to be cloyingly cute and the characters were annoying. All of 'em.

I'll go along with the "annoying" tag on Glitter. After Act 1 I said to my wife "I'll give this character 5 minutes to stop pissing me off."

IMO, she did. She redeemed herself with the "yummy" comment. That's when I knew she wasn't pure evil, but some combination of bitchy and inappropriate. That works for Karen Walker, so why can't it work here? So I'm in for a few more weeks.

Oh, for the days of AITF, TMTMS, TBNS, WIC and, of course, T.Didn't we just do this in another thread about comedies? Anyway, for current strong comedies you left out S, SP, and B. The ones you mentioned that I was thinking about are AD, MNIE, Scrubs, EHC, HIMYM. That's four hours right there... and I watch more than comedies! I have kids, a wife, a job... even two dogs! I have to prioritize, people! :)

For historical comedies I can't believe you left out SN and certainly S!

And if we're willing to add in premium channels of course you have lots more.

Add me to the "meh" column. I didn't really like "Emily" as a character (i.e. I didn't feel like I got to know her very well), but HG is hot and she was golden on Scrubs, so I'll give this one a chance.

Chalk me up as another vote for the "meh" factor. I don't think I would have watched this (even with the HG factor) if my wife hadn't really wanted to.

Something else I'm surprised nobody said. Many aspects of what I've seen so far seem to be blatant rip-offs of Ally Mcbeal. They way HG always voiceover talked to herself. He whole low-self-esteem-I-can't-find-a-good-man-boo-hoo-woa-is-me attitude. And glitter REALLY reminded my wife and I of Lucy Lu's character in Ally. Her look, in your face bitchiness...it all seemed to plagarized to me.

But my wife still thought she liked it so I'll give it another week or so before I decide its on the "watch without me" list. Her watch without me list is too big anyways because of all the daytime crap she records on what we call the "pink tivo"

Hahahaha, we have a "her" box too. Lot's of Guiding Light and 7th Heaven episodes. Of course my son uses it for The Simpsons episodes (since I am not a fan), and my daughter uses it for her kiddie movies.

I don't let ANYONE touch MY Tivo, which we record my shows and all the shows we ALL watch (on the bigger Tivo, better Tivo, Home theater sound...LOL)

Add another "meh".

But Heather Graham in an assortment of tight t-shirts and sweaters gets a season pass from me against most competition :D

The "easy" gay jokes were stupid. The "reasons" countdown is kinda cute - we'll see soon if it's too cute and becomes grating. For now, I'll just enjoy 30 minutes/week of ogling Heather Graham.

Add me to the "meh" chorus.
It was marginally better than the Joey pilot.
Certainly it's no Scrubs.
If it wasn't Heather Graham, it would be Thumbs Down and SP deleted.

All though that was the dorkiest I have seen Victor Webster.

I also find it amusing that there is a big bilboard for Emily across the street from the Scrubs filming location.

There is the likely 20+ year age difference, and "W" is limited to making snide comments in the monotonous surly tone. Glitter was a much different personality, even with the snide shots.

But... they are both Asian.

Didn't laugh once. I'll give it one more shot, but I doubt it will last past that.

I can't believe so many of you base things on the appearance of HG. I mean, she's cute and all, but she's not that cute. Besides, every show on TV has a hot chick on it. Do you all have SP's for all the soap opera's too? They're full of hot chicks.

Weird.

I didn't care much for it. In fact the only reason I didn't delete the season pass is that I'm trying to get myself to give new shows that by their description I thought I'd like a reasonable chance to build up my interest, so if I start watching one, it gets 3 episodes minimum.

Right now I think the only possible redeeming value this show might have is having nice looking shirtless guys on TV. Unfortunately it's ABC, so it's not like we can hope for less than shirtless. :)

It was the call letters of WKRP in Cincinatti, a radio station of misfits, the station mascot was a KaRP, yes it was pointed out that there is no K in Carp.

This was the same station owner that uttered the words "I thought turkeys could fly"
(one of the best sequences in TV comedy imo)

I found it an amusing ripoff of Sex & The City. In one scene they even used music that was almost identical to the SATC theme music. The Soup did a takeoff on the commercial for Emily's. it was the opening to SATC with the name of the show crossed out and Emily's Reasons Why Not written in.

Any excuse to see a handsome shirtless man is OK in my book, and seeing the guy from Keen Eddie is a big plus.

"Quick kill for ABC's 'Emily Reason’s Why Not'

Whatever hopes ABC had for its new comedy "Emily Reason’s Why Not" have expired, and now so has the show. After just one episode the network has shut down production of the Monday 9 p.m. comedy, which last week earned a 2.8 rating among viewers 18-49, fourth in its timeslot. No word on what will happen to John Stamos’ "Emily" lead-out "Jake in Progress."
