Anybody have this? How's it packaged compared to the regular seasons? Is it worth getting instead of the seperate season sets?

It is much smaller than the separate season sets. It is just wider (and deeper) than a DVD, and as tall as a normal DVD box. The 7 seasons are in individual flip binders inside the box, the binders and disks are oriented horizontally, with season 1 at the top and season 7 at the bottom.

My understanding is that only the 1 DVD of new extras is different, otherwise all the content is identical to the existing season boxed sets. (I got it mainly because I'd procrastinated and only picked up season 1 of Buffy before the Chosen Collection was announced).

Update: Here are a couple of pictures on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/B000AQ68RI/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0/102-8855974-3113722?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=dvd&index=0#gallery) that show how they are stored.

I've got it... I like the packaging... It's a single box with each season in a cardboard gate-folded holder...the spine of each season creates a picture when they are all stacked vertically... There is an "extra" disc that is included that you cannot get if you buy the seasons separately (and it is packaged in a flimsy cardboard holder...nothing special)...

As far as content is concerned, my understanding is that besides the extra disc, the other discs are identical to the ones that have already been released...

I got it for just under $120.00 during deepdiscountdvd's 20% sale...

I got it just this week. The packaging is particularly cool, I think. However, as I said previously in the "All Things Buffy" thread, as far as I can tell there's no difference in the the discs for the first two seasons in the old individual season sets vs. the same two seasons in the new seven-season set. (I only had the first two seasons on DVD before now, so that's all I can truthfully comment on.) There is a separate DVD with "never before seen" stuff, and I personally like the booklet in the new set better than the little booklets that came in my individual season sets.

I supppose it depends on how big a fan you are, or how much of a complete-ist you are as a collector, or whatever, but if I already had all seven of the individual sets, I personally wouldn't buy this.

EDIT:
For your further information, the special DVD I mentioned above says this:

5 All-New Featurettes:

"Breaking Barriers: It's Not A Chick-Fight Thing" - The Evolution Of Buffy's Fighting Style

"Love Bites" - Relationships in the Buffyverse

"Evil Fiends" - Meet your favorite Buffy demons

"Buffy: An Unlikely Roll Model" - Why we wanna be Buffy

"Favorite Episodes" - The chosen ones from cast and crew

Ah, okay. I was jus' wonderin' as I have S1, and plan on getting all seven one of these days. Wasn't sure if it was worth selling the S1 box I have to get this.

As far as selling goes, I'd say yes. I got this set for less than $170, whereas I figure buying the individual sets was gonna cost me more like $300 or more (I was buying 'em used when I could find them). I'm certainly intending to sell my original season one and two sets.

It's probably cheaper for you to get the Chosen collection than seasons 2-6 seperately... even if you don't sell the season 1 set.

Although I already had S1-S7, I picked it up anyway since I am a completist. Based on price point, it's cheaper than collecting the individual seasons although the discs are exactly the same as in the individual sets. Considering how cheap S1 sometimes goes for when it's on sale, I'd say selling it would be up to you depending on whether or not you have a use for that duplicate. The Chosen Collection price is a good deal. On the bonus disc, the roundtable discussion was my favorite feature.

I picked this up, $143 at bestbuy.com.

Imhappy with it, I had not previously purchased because I did not want to buy 7 seasons at the ridiculous price of around $50 each. I think this was a great way to package a set, and I hope they do it with Angel someday too.

Yup...I am hoping the same for Angel as well... <crossing my fingers>

I'm hoping for this treatment for Angel as well. I didn't buy the Chosen Collection because I already had S1-7, but I haven't bought any of the Angel seasons yet.

A Costco here in the Dallas area had a package of all five Angel seasons (each in their original boxes, as far as I could tell) for $125, or something close to that.

Sorry for the bump of an old thread, but what's the difference between

http://www.amazon.com/Buffy-Vampire-Slayer-Collectors-discs/dp/B000AQ68RI/sr=8-1/qid=1164996253/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-1191577-9921425?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

and

?

I from what it looks like, the former is what you guys are talking about, while the latter is just Amazon selling all seven seasons in one group? Anything special that it costs more, other than the boxing?

I think someone said the Collectors set has bonus material.

FYI, buy.com has this at the moment (goes out quickly) for $120 - $20 with google checkout = $100 with free shipping. I'm undecided about buffy but for $100 I can always give it as a gift and no one would complain.

http://www.buy.com/prod/Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer_Complete_Series/q/loc/273/40722957.html

It goes in and out of stock it seems. Was in stock a few days back, then out until about 1am tonight.

is there any way to delay shipping? I'm going away and dont want this on the doorstep lol

one other silly question....which i'm sure is Yes....i assume the PQ is much superior to my homemade dvds off FX right? Plus FX chops them i think?

even using IE instead of netscape, i have trouble getting the google check out...buy.com works fine of course...any ideas how to force it thru?

The PQ will definitely be better than the FX recordings, and FX's are particuarly egregiously bad. Breaks in BtVS were carefully scripted and do make a difference in the storytelling. You'll be happier with the Chosen Collection. I picked it up a few weeks ago from barnesandnoble.com - they were running an absurd sale, and I got it even cheaper than the sale price due to a AAA members special that was stackable. For just under $84, including shipping, I couldn't pass it up - even though I owned Seasons 1-5.

I already sold seasons 4 & 5 to a co-worker's kid for $40. Eventually, I'll need to do something with Seasons 1-3. I hate gifting used stuff, and I can't imagine Seasons 1-3 would do particularly well on Ebay. Hmmmmmmm......

They have actually already released The complete series of Angel in europe so it will probably get released over here eventually

FX is pretty careful about adding the extra commercial time, so it's relatively hard to tell when and where they chopped out to get the extra time. I really don't have a problem with that aspect of FX's presentation of Buffy.

(Now, TNT's presenta--
We'll be right back after this commercial break...
... And now back to Angel

Sci-Channel is the same way with Doctor Who--it's like they decide the commercial break will happen at 12:00 (or whatever), come hell or high water.

Aggravated by the cuts they have to make to make it fit into the time slot, although those aren't too bad. I used to get DW from a friend on CD, which I would then pass along to another friend. Now that I have a networked DVD player that can play files from my computer (even HD!), I can download them myself and save them until the real DVDs come out, so when Sci-Fi shows them in the future, I can just "watch along" with the British version so I can participate in the threads.

By the way, thanks for pointing out this Buffy deal--looks like I got in on it just in time.

my wife just got this in the mail yesterday...nice present for her as she was shocked. I'll wait until the weekend to load them in the sony changer. She was even more shocked at the 100 price and i said you have the tivo group to thank for that!

She did notice how much smaller buffys package is than the xena collection and asked me why that was. You can insert your own answer here_____________

Mom picked up the chosen collection at FYE for me a day or two before Christmas, since she didn't order it from Amazon when I suggested it. Don't want to know how much she paid for it (although she did buy that FYE discount card), but I was happy on Christmas :). Now I'm trying to finish up season one, although the freak-of-the-week episodes are annoying....looking forward to Seasons 2+...scratch that, Season 1, Ep 12 +

Bumpalicious - I was wandering through Costco yesterday (I went to pick up the new HP book, and spent a few hundred more dollars while I was there) when I saw - lo and behold - S1-5 of Angel for $16.99 each. Sold. I was kinda hoping for a good box set treatment, but at that price (considering I paid $39.99 for each season of Buffy as soon as it was released) I couldn't pass it up.

I forget exactly what I paid, but I know I made a profit - a good $20-30 IIRC - buying this and selling all my used individual season sets. I would have been willing to do it at a loss because I needed the shelf space, but coming out ahead was nice. Pretty sure I found it on ebay. I think I broke even selling my original Angel sets and buying the slim sets.

I saw a report (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7625) that Fox is working on an Angel complete series release for October 30, est price $150. That's more per season that your deal, but I think I'll hold out for the boxed set.
