we have a new 52 inch HDTV w built in receiver...currently have TWC but thinking of switching to DIRECTV...my question is we have had TIVO brand TIVO for almost 2 yrs and LOVE IT!!! I would love to keep my TIVO brand TIVO but unsure if it would work w DIRECTV?? anyone know??? thanks!

You'll need to get a regular DirecTV receiver to use as a source for the TiVo. However, if you do go with DirecTV you should consider their DVR. You may still be able to get a TiVo based version instead of their new NDS based DVR.

o really?? I was gonna get the HD receiver and package (for espn, etc). so my tivo wont work w HD receiver? I would hate to get used to a whole new DVR

AFAIK, a SA TIVO will only record the SD channels. To record D* HD channels, you'll need the HR10-250 HD DirecTIVO. At least until their new NDS HD DVR (non-TIVO) unit is released...

whats SD channels? I do not need it to record in HD since I will only have a few HD channels. will iit still record all others? this one above that I linked?

HD - High Definition
Yes it will record all the SD channels.
