Help! Need a new DTV Tivo!!!

I LOVE Tivo. However, one of my philips 704's (35hr?) went out. I am not technically inclined to fix or coordinate fixing. I don't even know where my philips is on the scale of DTivo's.

I attempted to buy anothor but when I got home found the DTV has their own DVR instead of Tivo's. I have had one night and want to get rid of it.

The new HD DTV with Tivo is still pretty pricey for me and thought I would wait until it comes down a bit more in price. Being that I am not technically inclined I don't need to be on the cusp of technology.

Any suggestions on what I should buy to simply fullfil my Tivo needs? I thought about just buying another used philips from ebay but saw threads warning against this.

So the hughes DVR80 instead of the R10.... And thanks for such a quick response!

Just use the R10. It doesnt matter, as long as its a TiVo.

Keep in mind, if you want *ANY* of the future DirecTV/PMP/Computer features, you would want an R15. Personally, I love my R15. Sure its not a TiVo, but it gets the job done.

Don't get an R10 if you want to zipper. Get one of the other S2 TiVo's.

If I get the S2 then I understand that I lose the ability to record two shows at one time.. correct?

No, you want an S2 DirecTv receiver with TiVo. All of those support dual tuners.

And one of those would be? I don't know how to identify an S2 DTivo receiver.. Hence the screen name.

As long as its not one of the old Hughes GXCEBOT, philips DSR6000 or the Sony Sat-T60, its a series 2. Series 2 units that are hackable are the ones that are NOT the DirecTV R10 (IE, HDVR2, SD-DVR40/80, DSR 704, DSR 7000 etc.

Gunny - Was trying to. Didn't know if I should get the R10 or the Hughes DVR80 and posted as such. I have verified that the hughes DVR80 is a series 2 and so can follow everyone's advice. Ordering now... thanks all!
