Hi all,
I'm looking for a 2 channel directtv unit that I can use with the USB networking option. Which, if any, models can I use from Sony, Hughes, etc....?

Or, does the USB networking thing only work with tivo series 2's?

Oh yeah, I want a unit that runs the "tivo" software, not the dain bramaged directtv R15 interface.

BTW, the R15 sucks, I just got one, I hate it like the plague. The interface is from hell.
Anyone want it :-) Cheap.

Thanks, Bruce

None. Unless you're willing to "hack". In that case, all except the R10 can easily take network adapters.

DirecTV has chosen not to enable TiVo support of networking.

Sure... Send me a PM with your Idea of Cheap.

Given all the announcements over the last few days....
I would love to have a third one...

I will definately take it, if you really mean cheap. I've got 2 R15's and like them a lot.

Hacking's fine, I is a engineer....
So, what's the best hackable unit to start with?

Any of the models with USB ports except the R10. The Philips DSR704(8) is one I like, but the Hughes HDVR2, Samsung and RCA models are fine too, as is the HR10-250 (HD model).

Sorry, rookie question here, never cracked open a tivo, yet...
If I modify a DSR704(8) or whatever to use the USB ports, can I still get tivo updates?
For example, I want the home network stuff working, pick shows from the web site etc...
Does that stuff all work with the USB mods needed, or are they mutually exclusive?

Seems like networking and 2 channels are pretty basic requirements, anyone already gone through this? What are the drawbacks?

A lot of people have done it...

And what you ask is possible.

Do some searches here on the forums.... Zipper is a good keyword to try.

If you're at software version 6.2, you've already seen all the software updates you're gonna.
