I don't know about the validity, it's been a rumor since the demise. If it does come to pass, that will be one happy, happy day!

Naw, this thread doesn't belong there. It isn't about an episode that has already aired. It'll get more views in Happy Hour. You know, where we chit chat about stuff.

That being said, I'm sure it'll be moved in 3...2...1...

Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio are all locks...you can tell they'd love to do it by listening to them on the commentary tracks.

I think this was the first series I completed on DVD. Hope it sticks this time! (We've been down this rumor path before.)

I heard there was a Futurama movie as well. There's an IMDB entry but that can be submitted by anyone I guess. I did read though that Groening said he'd rathar have the time from a movie than be stuck with a "halfhour" time slot. Said you develop more story. Either one would be fine with me.

so the whole we cancelled it because of the ratings thing really doesn't stack up well compared to DVD sales huh Fox?

DVD Sales and good ratings on Cartoon Network where it's in a regular time slot and not interupted over half the time.

Oh, no room for Bender, huh? Fine! I'll go build my own lunar lander, with blackjack and hookers. In fact, forget the lunar lander and the blackjack. Ahh, screw the whole thing!

It's quick and easy to do voice work for cartoons and most of the actor's seemed to really enjoy it.

This rumor has been around forever. I thought the whole purpose of Futrama being chopped into McSeasons was because FOX wanted more editorial control, which Groening would NOT give, since he had that creative freedom with Simpsons, so FOX did the whole, "fine, we'll mess up your time slot, practically never show your eps and then cancel it... but keep cashing in the checks coming in from Simpsons..."

How nice it sounds to have Futurama back, I have my doubts it'll be permanent. Both links to stories say "limited new episodes"... and in FOX terms, that means like 3 more McSeasons of 5 episodes... color me indifferent until I see the eps...

What do you mean it doesn't belong here?

This is the TV Talk area. This thread is about a TV show. That you want to talk about. So it goes in the TV Talk area.

The Happy Hour is for uncategorized chit chat, but this area is clearly defined, and this thread absolutely belongs here. This one isn't even ambiguous.

Now, if some people don't utilize the entire forum, and so don't see a thread about a TV show - that is their problem. If a member only wants to read one section of the forum to the exclusion of all others that is their choice. But, they may miss news stories about TiVo, or TV Talk, or DirectTiVo or whatever, because they are going to be in those sections of the forum. Since we have designated sections of the forum for specific discussions, the appropriate thing to do is keep the topics organized, so yes, this thread was moved.

I swear, Indy, someday I'm going to create a forum whiners section, just for you. ;) :D

Y'know, with the way people bitch about post counts, threads being moved, potentially political discussions, football games running over when people forget to pad their shows, spoiler rules, when a thread should start relative to when the show actually airs, and duplicate threads, a whiners area may not be a bad idea.

JAP, just so you have all the information before finalizing your opinion - here was my train of thought.

TV Talk is mainly for episodic discussion of current shows. It is largely populated with thread titles containing specific show information, including episode title and airdate.

My merged thread dealt with a show not even in production. As such, people who enjoy the show probably don't check out the TV Talk section looking for Futurama info, since there's nothing new. Thus, when a news article about it's potential return popped up, the best place to chit chat about it was Happy Hour.

If M*A*S*H* was being put back into production and there was a preliminary news article about it starting back up again, shouldn't that go in Happy Hour? It's not a thread talking about last week's show with spoilers and speculation.

What about someone starting a poll about the best sitcom ever? Chit chat material? Or relegated to the area most people know to go for the latest info on current shows?

If every thread that mentioned any show was stricken to TV Talk, that wouldn't make sense. It's more fluid than that. It should be about context and not strict rules. And how on earth did you stumble across my grouse from weeks ago? Are you a Futurama fan or did someone who dislikes me find something nitpicky to complain about?

TV Talk is mainly for episodic discussion of current shows.

No, Indy, that is your interpretation of what you want TV Talk to be. It is, and always has been, a discussion of anything related to programs that air on network and cable television. This includes such past topics as: where to write to networks to encourage them to reconsider cancelling programs such as American Dreams; discussions of episodes of Sports Night (before they were aired again on whatever network had the gall to cut them up) and also discussions of the gall of networks to cut them up.

This area is to discuss television shows: past, present, and future(ama). If you want to discuss Mayberry RFD, which is not a current show, this is the place. If you want to discuss a documentary such as Slasher, which is not episodic but is (was?) currently on TV, this is the place. If MASH starts up again - this is the place.

If you wish to discuss the Oscars, or the Golden Globes, this is the place.

This is the place to talk about TV.

Are you a Futurama fan or did someone who dislikes me find something nitpicky to complain about?

Nobody complained. I went to read the forum, and my 8 year old made me click into this thread, because he likes futurama. :) And, I saw your complaint, again.

Again.

I assume you meant the Emmies. Oscar talk (about movies) would go in Happy Hour, right?

Um, no, I don't have the time to read every single thread in every section of the forum looking for violations. And neither do the other mods.

But, when we see violations, we will enforce them. We also encourage other people to help us be consistant by reporting threads that are misfiled.

I have some nice cheese for you, any time you want, Indy. ;)

I thought I have listened to all the commentary tracks on the DVDs and I have never heard Katey Sagal on any of them. I found it strange that the other commentators rarely even mention her. The only time I remember is when she played Leela like a Peg on Married...with Children. Is there a reason she was left out of the commentaries or did I just happen to miss them all?

So, having all the DVDs, I AM a big fan and this is definitely "Good news, everyone."

NoThru, that page (and basically any occasion to show the toad on Futurama) are hysterical! I love it.

Now, as I said, I'm still skeptical of anything happening (ever, basically), but here's an unofficial "official" stance from FOX:

http://www.gotfuturama.com/

"Peter Liguori, who took over the position of president of the broadcasting arm at FOX (FBC) from Gail Berman in 2005. While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, he talked some about the prospects of Futurama coming back to life at his division:

In terms of 'Futurama' -- there's no doubt that the 'Family Guy' model worked outstandingly. It's great to be a network exec and have a decision made for you by an audience. In terms of 'Futurama,' there haven't really been any active negotiations at this point. But I'd be an ostrich to just stick my head in the dirt and not realize what's going on with 'Futurama' as well. "

Not a yes to future futurama episodes/movies, but clearly closer to a no, at least IMO.

I think they couldn't get her for the commentaries because she was too busy working on "8 Simple Rules..." So it was out of sight, out of mind while they were recording the commentaries and she wasn't in the room, but Billy West and/or John DiMaggio were in the room to talk about the 78 characters they had voiced in that particular episode.

I thought they had her on at least the one for the episode where she finds her parents...it was her favorite.
