I feel if those 'Lost' watchers can do it for a medicore drama then we should do it for one of the top 5 comedies in the history of TV.

I am super excited. I love this show. Also curious: Zach Braff said in a video post to his blog (http://gardenstate.typepad.com/zach_braffs_garden_state_/) that the episodes they were making so far this season were really pretty out there. And in his brief preview this morning in USA Today, Robert Bianco (http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/criticscorner/2006-01-02-critics-corner_x.htm) writes:

...Scrubs seems to have used its outcast status to stride off in its own direction, becoming broader, odder and more absurd.

Can't wait to see it!

Not really up there with the best of them but a bad Scrubs episode (or two) still has enough comedic gold to make up for it.

Bill Lawrence, creator of Scrubs, was a co-creator of Spin City. Almost every Spin City alum has been on Scrubs at least once: Alexander Chaplin, Michael Boatman, Heather Locklear, Alan Ruck, Michael J. Fox. I sure wish Jennifer Esposito would make an appearance.

They typically find good stuff for Scrubs. That one's been in my library for a while now, actually -- it was the free download of the week on iTunes several months ago.

I've only watched the first of the two episodes so far. Funny, I guess, but not anything to rave about. The Eliot bits were just silly, not funny, just silly. And the guys...

Maybe I'm just no longer the right guy for this type humor.

I thought this was the first downright bad episode I've ever seen. It was painful watching them reach so hard for what used to come naturally, and fall so short. I'm now reluctant to watch the second one.

The second one was much better IMO. However, even that wasn't a top 10. It seems to take most shows an episode or two to get their groove back.

I'm not so sure about this shows life expectancy. NBC doesn't even have enough confidence/pride to produce it in HD. That doesn't look like a good sign to me.

This has to be about the last 'big four' show that's not HD, right? What does that say?

I just watched the season 1 DVDs over the holidays and these didn't even feel like the same show. The characters exhibited not a trace of the depth they used to have. They were just vehicles for the gags, which were flat and forced and seem to have replaced any attempts at decent dialog, story, or character development.

A series premier this bad would have been deleted 10 minutes into the first episode. I'll probably give Scrubs more time than I should to get back on track, but right now it looks like it's good years are behind it. Shame.

This may have been mentioned already, but I'm not going to read the thread since I've only watched one of the episodes.

In the future, perhaps we should have one thread per episode instead of lumping them together. People like myself, who have only watched one so far, can't participate in the discussion without getting spoiled on the other.

Some reasonably encouraging news on the ratings front. These eps were up more than 11% in the key 18-49 demo versus the season 4 bow. Hopefully more of these viewers side with the positive thoughts in this thread rather than the negative. (Source: The Futon Critic (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/ratings.cgi?id=tuesday).)

Still, as usual, one has to wonder what NBC is thinking, if anything. They bring Scrubs back against the Orange Bowl (easily last night's #1), with a bizarre lead-in of Fear Factor, and a lead-out of SVU.

JYoung

I think the issue with the first episode was that J.D. was so unappealing (especially with that fake laugh) that it turned off a number of people.
(I realize that was the point but......)

I was surprised at how fast Elliot's new hospital job was written out. I guess it would have been hard to find scenarios that put her into the storyline's with the rest of the gang, not to mention the need for different looking hospital sets.

Also, I'm pretty sure Bill Lawrence broke his 'J.D. and Elliot hook up once a season' rule that was mentioned in prior seasons.

I had the exact same reaction. For the same reason, I fully expect Elliot to be back at Sacred Heart in the matter of an episode or two (although it's obviously easier to incorporate her into storylines now that she doesn't have anyplace else to be). Makes you wonder why they even bothered with the development, aside from a little season-ending cliffhanging (and maybe that was the reason). But we'll see where they go with it.

I thought the episodes were OK, but not great. After waiting so long to see these, I was a bit disappointed.

I don't think two threads would work, because people would forget which episode they saw something in and talk about it in the wrong thread.

These two eps weren't S2 good, but I still enjoyed them.

I thought Cox's wife looked more like Kate from The Drew Carey Show (yeah, I know it's the same actress). She let her hair grow out and she looks younger and better. My son kept waiting for Drew to make a cameo :)

It's not nearly as hot if you grew up in Germany.

I think you're just feeling the effects of residual hotness from the bit before when she didn't speak German.

No, I'm telling you, chicks speaking German really do it for me. I had a good friend who grew up in Germany and anytime she wanted to make me pounce on her she would speak german.

Not all harsh and "Ilsa: She-Devil of the SS"-like as Elliot did, of course. :)

My wife and I felt exactly the same way!

We like the show Scrubs, you know, the one where they all work togther and interact in somewhat natural scenarios and have established roles, you know, the show that aired the last few seasons. The first episode was totally not that.

WE have not watched the second one yet, but based on some comments here I am looking more forward to it now.
