PSP Video 9 requires an extra step.

I'm waiting for the Tivo desktop to be able to transfer directly into a format the PSP can read. That would be something.

I doubt that you'll ever be able to transfer from the Tivo to PSP without having to reencode the video. Tivo isn't exactly a processing powerhouse, so you'll need something on your PC for the conversion process.

Isn't this exactly what they promised with the CES announcement of PSP support?

Yah... the next version of the TiVo Desktop software can convert for PSP or iPod playback. There may be a small charge to activate that feature in the software... though TiVo still has time to change their mind on that. ;)

I'd pay for it. Especially if an all in one Tivo Desktop function could eliminate time.

The 3rd party converters are kind of buggy, but work most of the time. The real issue is the time involved to convert. You're talking 1 hour to transfer from the Tivo, and then another hour to transcode to the PSP format.

TiVo Desktop 2.3 will also do this, but it isn't out yet.

When is Desktop 2.3 expected to show up? My PSP is lonely! :(

TiVoPony has hinted at a release date in April, so it should only be a couple more weeks provided everything goes as planned.

Speaking of PSP... Engadget is out at CEBIT has some cool news:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/15/psp-gets-gps-and-camera-add-ons-video-chat-and-voip-and-media/

Rounding things out are the announcements that a future firmware release will bring Macromedia Flash compatibility and a new RSS Channel function to save and playback internet radio and video content. All this and the PSP base-unit price will be cut to $199 by the end of the month. Still no mention of that rumored Sony Mail client or NAND drives, but then that’d just be greedy at this point, eh?

Hmmm... may be time to reacquire the PSP. Then again this price cut *may* coincide with the announcement of some sort of larger portable video device by Apple. (I'm not holding my breath, but maybe I need to hold off on any portable video device purchases. Oh yeah, the Toshiba Gigabeat S should be out soon as well.)

EDIT: Oops, this announcement didn't come out of CEBIT. It was from another site and a Tokyo press conference.
