SA S2 not responding to remote

I have a TiVo branded S2 SA that powers up and finishes with the message to press Live TV or the TiVo button. It goes into standby but I can't bring it out. The remote appears to be working, but it looks like the DVR doesn't response to it. I even reset the DVR 1 and 2 switches on the remote and did a global reset on the remote but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Model number of TiVo? Has this unit worked for you before? On what basis do you conclude that the remote appears to be working?

I'm not at home right now, so I don't have the exact model number. It's TCD-something, I think.

It has worked before but has been stored for the past six months or more.

The light on the remote is working when I press the buttons. It also lit up as the book said it should when I did the resets.
