TiVo Accounting

How hardcore is TiVo account enforcement? I've got a work buddy who thinks he might want a TiVo. I'm up to three active units, including a prepaid 140HR model which I thought I'd loan him for a month or so to check it out... after awhile I assume he'd give it back, buy it, or get his own. The thing that concerns me about this plan is he lives about 20 miles away which puts him in another state with a different cable provider. Officially I'm probably breaking the TOS, unofficially I'm not sure I'm cheating TiVo out of anything and will most likely generate a new customer. So what's the consensus here...?

(I already got one guy on my sparsely populated hallway to buy a unit, though he didn't get me a TiVo Reward and I wasn't comfortable bugging him about submitting after the fact.)

Nothing wrong with loaning your friend your prepaid unit.
The only time Tivo might have a problem is if you let your buddy activate monthly service on your account for the reduced $6.95/month fee.

I agree - my son has a pre-paid Tivo unit off at college in another state. So that should be "almost" the same. Besides - if yr friend likes it then he may want to but a new unit - thus giving Tivo a new customer. Worse case - he buys yours and then buys more for his family - STILL Tivo getting new customer....
