I have a Humax DRT800. I assume others are similar in this respect. When I try to record an excerpt of a show or a music video to be transfered to DVD, the machine records the entire show, at least as much as in the buffer. How can I record just the bits I want for a compilation? Is there a DVR out there that will do what I want with TIVO?
Thanks.

You can manually scheduling a recording based on the time and only record the part you want. And if you're watching something and want to record only a bit, you can hit 'record' and start a recording at that point. You have the option of keeping what is in the buffer, or dumping that and starting at that point. Then you can manually stop a recording when you want too.

No, there isn't. This is precisely why I got a Toshiba recorder to use *along* with my Tivos. Though the non-Tivo recorders are less reliable -- at least in my experience.
I still am glad that I bought this, for the editing functionality.
You *could* record to DVD-RWs then do the editing on a computer though.
