View Full Version : So Reccomend some shows to me

My Tivo is pretty empty these days, or it's filled with nothing I want to watch.
Reccomend some shows to me- comedy, drama, specials, I don't care.
Something that's in the guide now, that I can record.
What's good on TV these days?

Couple interesting shows I have come across:
"Random 1" I believe A&E -- follows two guys that try and make a difference in someones life they meet on the street
"Icons" on G4 --- short 1/2 hour shows on different Icons of the computer and video game industry
I have started recording the "24" series since they re-aired them but have not gotten to them yet.
Thats really all I can think of now... I have a hard time around this time once all my normal season shows come to an end.

Here's something I noticed the other day - not sure whether it's a new feature but it was new to me.
On the Now Playing list, bring up the Program screen for a program you like, and press Info on the remote. At the bottom of the Program Details window is a category titled "Similar Programs." You could review those lists if you're feeling lucky.

Random 1 scheduled.
I don't think I get G4.

I like finding things out of the ordinary. My recommendation would be Seconds from Disaster on National Geographic Channel. One hour show that disects the secquence of events that leads to bad things happening.

We recently started on that one too. Pretty cool show, especially when they talk about disasters you haven't heard of before.
How I Met Your Mother is by far my new favorite this year. All my others have fallen by the wayside.

I'm pretty aware of shows like Lost and the Daily Show.
Dirtypacman and Keithjmc had the right idea. I am looking for something I might not have heard of.

Actually, I just set to record all three. Can't get seconds from disaster. Don't seemto have that channel.

How can I tell if you've heard of them or not unless I say what I'm watching?
My must-watch list:
Grey's Anatomy
NCIS
Gilmore Girls (catching up with the repeats on ABCFAM)
Other stuff:
I see a Firefly marathon is coming up on Sci-Fi Channel.
We're enjoying E-Force (probably not as much interest to you since you are down that way and see Florida all the time ;) )
Also watching:
CSI (the original) -- can't wait for the new 'Lady Heather' episode
The West Wing
other stuff hardly worth mentioning (CSI:NY, Desperate Housewives, Bones)

If every episosde has a thread here, or if it's on Network TV, or if it's in the Neilsen top 20, or there are articles in Entertainment Weekly, I've heard of it.

If you have DirecTV, the current FreeView offerings are pretty good. U2 on the Vertigo tour and Collective Soul with The Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Try Reno 911, the funniest show on tv.
Yeah, it's slim pickings this time of year.
Do you like documentaries at all? If so, check out Megastructures. Some of them are really fascinating. No idea what channel it's on, sorry.

We need to learn from the squirrels. As soon as they start scurrying around hording their acorns for the winter, we should be storing up good programming onto DVD-RW for the dry spell in late December.

Watching a marathon of this today - very well-done show. As an old-timer by this channel's standards (31), I'm still mad I didn't get G4 until Starcade was long off the schedule.

24, currently in syndie on A&E, WGN, and local Viacom stations. It's the best show on TV. Nothing compares to it. Nothing ever will.

I'm in the same boat.
I've recorded most of the movies I want to see off PPV too - there is one I'm mildly interested in, but I'm saving that for New Year's Eve.
Tonight, if you are into weird medical anomolies, there are shows about two headed babies, a kid born without a face, and some other program. (I admit to a weird fascination with that kind of programming and the surgeries they do to correct it.) I think it's on Discovery. They sound really odd, but they are handled with sensitivity usually.
I'll look for Random 1, it's the only thing mentioned I hadn't heard of.

Dirty Jobs is great.
Seconds from Disaster is on National Geographic. I don't think I got it until I went from Total Choice to Total Choice Plus on Directv.
Megastructures is really good, as well. I'm not sure what channel, could be NGT, too, but I THINK it's one of the other ones. (Hist, Disc, etc.)
I got lassoed into a 24 marathon yesterday. The one season I missed. I kept thinking I was watching the last episode and then another would come on. Finally, dinner plans screwed me and I missed the very last episode of the season. That was annoying. (At the family house, no Tivo.)
Quick edit: My girlfriend loves a show called "I shouldn't be alive," or something like that. It's about people that have survived life-threatening situations. I wish I could give more info on it, but she gives it a huge thumbs up.

It's on Discovery Science. Channel 284 on DTV. Love that show.

I find myself watching "what not to wear"... :o
I don't know if you've caught MI-5 on BBC/AETV...it's rather fun in a brit/24 way.

If you like that, try Extreme Engineering. Also very cool. And in HD if you get DiscHD Theater.

Hmm, December 2005, January 2006.
What actually IS the shelf life on threads and how the heck does someone find one this old to respond to???

I don't know the shelf life, but I suggest "Three Sheets". Great show with its own drinking game.

I am going to pick "Search on Megastructures for $1000 Alex."
Just a guess on my part.
It is amusing when some of these old threads get brought back up.

On the one hand, I'm just killing time until LOST returns... but on the other, a friend sent me a copy of the season premiere of Ghost Whisperer. I hadn't watched since Season 1 (it was a little sappy). Well, it's gotten a lot better -- Jay Mohr is on the show now (and adds a comedic touch), and the scary stuff is a lot scarier. Plus I've heard there is cool mysterious stuff to be revealed about what's under the town. Who knew?

Extraordinary show. I'm watching it from the beginning on CLT, thanks to tivo. What an awesome awesome show. I would so love to work somewhere where there is such commitment.

I'm enjoying reruns of to tell the truth on GSN, and new episodes of without prejudice on the same.

I am confused with the bump as well...
But I can't help but take the opportunity to give a thumbs up for "The Contender"...
In my opinion, it's an under appreciated series that showcases up and coming boxers with real talent and skills... It's not just a show that attracts applicants that are simply thinking "what the heck, I'll give it a try"...sends in a demo tape and finds themselves on TV...

The First 48 on A&E is a show of real cops trying solve real murders in the first 48 hours after they happen. Dont want to ruin it for you but 99% of the murders are drug related. Also Im suprised at how many of them are also homosexually related. Great show!

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on Food Net is fun, even if the host is a total tool.
Drew Carey takes over Price is Right on 10/15. :)
