TiVo Ambassador contest (http://www.tivo.com/4.0.ambassador.asp)
I don't really know how to make a video nor do I have the equipment, so I haven't entered. But they keep e-mailing me about it because I've referred a bunch of people -- I guess that meets their minimum requirements.
I wish the contest didn't require filmmaking skills. :o Then again, maybe that's the kind of marketing skills they want in a TiVo Ambassador! :D

yep, that and the time to do it. Since TiVo will want your time to do ambassador type stuff and most likely put you in showcases and so forth it was a logical requirement but it stopped me from trying as it should have since time to travel isa big factor for me.

I'd like to be an Ambassador. I love TiVo. But I am finishing up college so I feel that they should go with someone with more ambassadorial experience. Although, I wouldn't mind interning at TiVoWorld during the summer. (TiVoWorld....think about it...the next gen's Disney...interactive style ~ just remember who gave you the idea)

Same deal. Lots of emails received. I think they're hoping for more entries. I sent some quick feedback that they might do better if they added some runner-up prizes.
Maybe I'm just lazy, but taking an hour to shoot and import and edit a video is a tought sell for the chance at a single prize. Not that I don't appreciate the offer, but that's what it comes down to for me.

Make me a 3-minute movie, write me a letter of recommendation, I'll win, and I'll give you the car but I'm keeping the cash. :p ;)
It is a cool-looking car!!!

No it wouldn't.
I know for a fact that parking in San Francisco is a myth. ;)
I was behind a mini the other day and it really didn't seem that much smaller than my car.

I was behind a mini the other day and it really didn't seem that much smaller than my car.But this is a special TiVo Mini. I think the amount of parking space that the TiVo Mini takes up depends on whether you're using it at Basic, Medium, High, or Best Quality. :D

<evil laugh> I've got a videocamera ... how much money is a movie starring TivoShanan and JustAllie worth?

But those compression artifacts are a real problem at basic or medium.

I keep getting these too. However I don't really have the motivation to shoot a video and bug someone to write me a letter of recommendation just for the chance to win. Plus I'm not sure I'd be able to get the time off work to fulfil my obligations even if by some fluke I did win.

Well, I'm a loser with too much time, so I've got my video and my recommendation and I just have to write my essay and mail it in. I will be thrilled to get the money and car if I win but mortified to have my lame video end up on a TiVo showcase.

When's the deadline? Other DC-area folk could help with making the video.
And I get a bunch of these as well, but don't think I can enter, or that I'd make a good Ambassador. I record stuff, but rarely watch it :D

As I recall, it was that conversation with me after dinner in Hartford that proved to be the tipping point in your decision to enter.
And then after you win, you can give me the car. :)

Correct. And yes, if I win you can have the car. I won't fit in it, and my new Charger would kick a Mini's ass any day. ;-)
Though, since the video is judged on things like creativity, and I don't have an editing setup, etc, that I'm sure a lot of folks will be using - I don't expect to win. I had to borrow a camcorder, and I plan to film it and then dump it to DVD via my TiVo.
But I really should finish my application I suppose.

As for my application, it was held up w/ my friend's testimonial. I'm sending it out tomorrow.
CES? I'd love to go but I'm here in NY. Wanna fly me out to Cali? hehe.

So this Matt guy... okay, okay... His Excellency The Ambassador of TiVo Matt Ward is a "writer," which means he spends most of his day surfing the web, waiting for inspiration. Which means he is almost certainly one of us. I'm pretty sure it isn't me, so who is it?

That was pretty funny.
I like HETAOT* Matt Ward, but I kinda wish they'd picked the African American girl who was at the end of one of the videos and at the beginning of the other. She was... cute.

Ya.... because THAT doesn't insult the company that just gave it to you or anything. I'm not crazy about the text & color on it either but a free car is a free car. I'm sure that he couldn't do it if he wanted at least for a year.

Slider you are probably right. I have changed my mind. I wouldn't paint or do a thing to this vehicle. It would probably fetch more money on ebay as is.

I'm sorry to threadcrap here (that's Figaro's job) but I didn't think the winner's clip was all that. My favorite one was the one with the guy holding the peanut doing the 3    for the boss yelling at the guy and the 3    cute chicks hanging out at the guy's cublicle. Slider, I preferred yours over the winner too.

Why couldn't they have asked ME to be a judge? ;)
There was probably various non-public criteria involved in the selection... I had a sneaking suspicion they'd pick someone in the same time zone. Maybe it's coincidence, maybe not. Though it sure makes meetings and photo ops more realistic. Not to mention someone with a 80hr/wk job probably wouldn't have much free time to contribute.
