Your Favorite "The Electric Company" Sketches?

Inspired by the "Sesame Street" and "Schoolhouse Rock" threads.

I loved and watched SS, Zoom, and Mr. Rogers like everyone else. But for my money there was no better kids program in the 70s than "The Electric Company." It was WAY ahead of its time and the special effects were groundbreaking for its day. And let us not forget that one of today's greatest actors, Morgan Freeman, got his start on this show.

In addition to "Easy Reader" I also loved "Letter Man" and, of course, the "Spiderman" bits.

If you go to Wikipedia and type in "The Electric Company" you can see a whole list of all the regular Electric Company sketches. Sorry, I can't link to it yet (not enough posts).

I liked the Spidey Super Stories mainly because Spider-Man could always catch the bad guy without saying a word.

I don't remember any part of Electric Company, other than I watched it, other than the pinball segment, which I assume was part of EC. I watched that and Sesame Street, I think they were aired back to back?

I've had an Auto-Record set for ELECTRIC COMPANY on my Tivo for the longest. Unfortunately, it doesnt look like PBS airs this show anymore.

There was an obscure educational channel that our cable system briefly carried, and they had re-runs of The Electric Company. It's been a few years, though, and I can't recall the name of the channel.

Pretty sure you mean Noggin, which had Electric Company as part of it's initial offerings, but has moved on to mostly replaying retired Nick Jr. shows. Any parent of a pre-K kid can tell you it isn't that obscure a channel to them. :)

Ah yes. Tom Lehrer, who came out of retirement to write and perform this and the -ly song.

My favorite was always phooey. I just liked the name.

Isn't Noggin still showing Electric Company late at night? It was a couple years ago when I got the Tivo anyway.

Noggin only shows from 6-6, at which point it is replaced by "The N", which is aimed at young teens.

The Adventures of Letterman!

I forget how it went..something like: "More faster than a rolling 'O', more quieter and a silent 'E'...."

More info: Beginning in 1972, there was also The Adventures of Letterman cartoon series. The evil Spell Binder would cause trouble by using his magic wand, replacing key letters to make the worse of situations (e.g.: Train into Rain). Then Letterman would take the letter(s) off his varsity sweater and correct the hazard.

My vote is for Letterman too.

Once in a superheroes roleplaying game I played Letterman briefly. His limitation was that within a single scene (such as one fight) he was stuck with a single letter, so his first action (which essentially chose the letter) was key. Boy, it can be hard to find ways to use this power in a combat effectively. I wouldn't want to have done it for very long. But for the few sessions where I did, it was some of the most fun I ever had in a supers game.

More powerful than silent "e"
Able to leap capital "T" in a single bound
It's a word, it's a plan, it's Letterman!
