Kind of buried in this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=3321411&&#post3321411) , Bob Coxner talks about Survivorman (http://science.discovery.com/convergence/survivorman/episodes/episodes.html) , a show that is currently showing on The Science Channel.

My family has enjoyed all the episodes that they have shown so far. It's a lot of fun to watch him in each of the various situations that he puts himself in. Not very realistic all the time, but it's still a fun hour of TV.

Anyone else (besides me and Bob) watching this?

I don't get the Science channel and I suspect that many don't.

You might be right. It's part of the Total Choice Plus package on DirecTv (channel 284) and America's Top 180 on Dish (channel 193). I don't know how many cable systems carry it though.

Thanks, Wilhite, I'm going to give this a try. I need to justify that extra money I spend for a digital package, anyway! :)

Love the show...just wish there were more places for him to go as they're already reruns. :(

He does a pretty good job of making do with what little he has and filming it all too boot. Anyone thinking about going on Survivor should watch so they could get some ideas on how to really start a fire (although they give them fire now anyway :( )

There are two "new" episodes coming up at the end of November and start of December that my Tivo hasn't recorded yet. I think that's all the episodes that they made except for the "Making Of..." episode that shows the behind the scenes stuff and outtakes.

Great show. He's a pretty tough guy. And his stomach is amazing - he eats some gross stuff at times.

Looks interesting. Tonight's episode is set to record. Thanks for the heads up. :)

I discovered this show a few weeks ago by accident. It's quite high on my season pass list now. I really enjoy it.

I also wish there were more episodes though; quite a few reruns.

Apparently the 1st season is on DVD here (http://www.lesstroudonline.com/shop.html).

Great show!

I found it by accident too, because I record "Discoveries This Week", and it caught the begining of it one time.

Really great show, I read somewhere that they were negotiating a second season and that Les is recording some other show called "...off The Grid" that is about him and his family living without any power, water, etc or something.

I just started watching this about three weeks ago. There was a marathon, and now I am hooked. I hope they continue to find new situations to drop him off in. This week he will be a castaway in the ocean. That should be fun to watch.

I've just stumbled across this show. There are actually 2 shows now....a 1/2 hour version that I think plays on Discovery and then the full hour show that runs on the Science channel. I just discovered the hour long show and switched my SP to that one.

The show has been on Canada's OLN for over a year now - showing consistently/weekly. I really enjoy the show - his philosophy and respect for nature. I have to agree that the "behind the scenes" show was outstanding. My wife didn't really get it until she saw that episode and was blown away. I also enjoyed the episode in Northern Ontario! He was eating crazy stuff and got snowed on! I guess canadian programming has two perks - survivorman & HNIC!

This is the only show that I haven't seen in the series. To the best of my knowledge, it hasn't shown on The Science Channel here in the US.

For anyone interested, he has a website (http://www.lesstroudonline.com/) (was linked earlier but in different context) where he posts some news about what's going on. He's said that there is some potential for a new set of Survivorman shows, but nothing seems to be firm yet. I don't think that he could stretch it out much more than about 20-30 shows, but it would be really cool to see him put together another set.

I discovered it accidentally about a month ago and have 4 or 5 episodes ready to watch. I'll save them for a rainy summer rerun season day.

I have watched one episode, "plane crash" and it now makes sense that the show is an hour. I saw the half hour show.

I just saw this as well - did we all catch the same promo somewhere? I watched one episode and added a SP.

I'll keep an eye out for "behind the scenes" episode. If I get it - I'll let you all know.

Bob - I haven't gotten into Trailer Park Boys - I don't know why. Is it really that good?

I actually saw the show listing while adding a SP for Survivor: Panama. It sounded good so I added it. Then while watching an episode I saw on the bottome how it said something about "watch the entire hour long episode Friday nights on Disc".

I saw an ad for this on Discovery the other night but ended up not getting to see it due to a conflict. I'll have to see if I can find a torrent for the eps or see if anywhere has the DVD for rent (I doubt it).

For me, it's about the funniest show ever put on television. The movie version (a prequel to the tv series) is rated 8.9 on IMBD, which puts it into the stratosphere.

It's funny for much the same reason that Absolutely Fabulous was funny. The main characters are almost without any socially redeeming chacteristics. They grow dope, pull off armed robberies, live in trailers and their car, are uneducated, make porn films, are alcoholic and spend much of their time in prison. How much funnier can you get? :)

Here's a sample quote from Ricky:
I try to be a role
model for kids around the park. If
some kid wants to grow dope, they
can come talk to me, instead of
growing dope 6 or 7 times through
denial and error, they're going to get it
right the first time and have some good
dope.

That quote is probably the only one of more than 5 words that doesn't include an F-bomb. The F word constitutes about 50% of their vocabulary.

When it's being shown you can find it on BBCAmerica. Sadly, it's not being shown at the moment but it deserves a Wishlist entry. I'm not into bittorrents but you might be able to find it there.

I caught the end of it on Discovery last night. Seems like something I could get into, at least occasionally. He was eating something and didn't eat it's head which I thought was funny.

I was able to catch and ep of this and found it to be entertaining, but at the same time a little boring. I saw the episode where he's dropped off on the top of a mountain near a glacier. I thought it was amazing how little he seemed to eat for being out there a week. However; some of the things he did didn't make any sense to me at all.

Why the hell would he build his shelter 15 feet from the river, in an exposed area during a rainstorm, rather than closer to the tree line where he'd have protection from the wind and rain? And did he really expect to kill a grouse with that homemade slingshot? He probably could have just thrown a rock and put more force behind it. Or, better yet, he could have used his ski pole as a spear. I will admit I let out an audible groan when he got a fire lit using nothing but a camera lens and some moss. I can barely get my fireplace to light with a butane lighter and a fire log!

I'm definitely going to try to watch some of the other episodes, but this one left me a little flat, even though it was enjoyable.

I thought I remember him explaining the location of the shelter was simply for ease of filming and he normally would never build a shelter that close to the water.

I have a WishList for Belize and this show came up on it. The show I"m interested in doesn't come up for about a week or so, I may have to check it out before then.

when i watch, i always feel bad for him because i know he has to go back for the camera. nothing like doing the same hike three times.

Sometimes he does leave the camera behind for "the crew" to pick up.

The only time I've seen him do that is at the very end of the show when he's getting picked up. Most of the time you can plainly see that he has both cameras with him, either being used or being hauled. He definitely spends a LOT of time setting up shots then walking back and forth to get the camera again.

I've heard him mention a few times that he has to do things 2-3 times to get the cameras. I remember him saying that on the episode where he's left at the summit of the mountain and also the one where he is left in the mojave desert he mentions he had to hike it 2 (actually 3 I think) times to get all the equipment.

Really like the show. I started doing this before I started watching the show but it reinforced it for me, I always carry a windproof lighter with me at all times, and I don't even smoke. Every show you can see how his life would be so much easier if he just had a lighter with him.

Lot of respect for the guy.

This is why I want to see the behind the scenes show, one time he did show us these two big cases of camera equipment that he has with him. He also has a satelitte phone that he says doesn't get a signal have the time.

I assume he leaves the big cases behind when he's filming the "walk off" then has to come back and get the camera AND the cases.

I watched the Belize one this weekend and was not impressed at all. I would much rather watch Stranded with Cash Peters anyday over this.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably set up a SP for this one as well.

From the website (http://travel.discovery.com/fansites/stranded/stranded.html), it sounds like Cash Peters is "surviving" in a urban environment whereas Les Stroud is in a wilderness environment. Two different skill sets, but probably still entertaining nonetheless.

I still haven't found the "Making of Survivorman" show yet. Has anyone seen it shown on The Science Channel?

I've been watching this show since its first ep on OLN canada. The guy is amazing! So far, I've seen him stranded in some crazy places - the swamp, the desert, a mountain top, the jungle and the forzen artic - the frozen artic for god's sake!!! The opening song is written and performed by him and he eats stuff I wouldn't even consider - not because it's gross, but because who thinks of pulling up a lake reed, cooking the bulb and eating it! Long live Les and U.S. exposure to Canadian TV!
