View Full Version : Tivo, thanks for the lineup change, but...

So I get a couple of messages stating that a lineup change has been detected and that 3 channels were added and 4 channels have been removed. The problem is that nothing has changed and now my lineup is wrong! I wouldn't normally care too much except that two of the now screwed up channels are ones that I actually watch and record from on a regular basis.
Great timing too - This weekend I'll be loaning one of my Tivos to my Mom to let her test drive it. She'll be confused enough w/o these channels being listed incorrectly.

You don't have that little cable co that did the DVR deal with TiVo, do ya?

Have you checked Tribune Media Services website to see if your new line up is listed.

Have you re-run guided setup?

He doesn't have a new lineup... TiVo gave him one but it changed channels that weren't moving so now he has a mismatch.

But if Tribune has his "new lineup" listed that isn't really a new lineup, TiVo is going to use it. And it's not TiVo's fault at that point.
I can't imagine the logistics of TiVo trying to have a TiVo box with a connection to every channel line up possible, and someone monitoring that Tribune's changes were real.
TiVo has to trust that Tribune meant to change the lineup.
If Tribune didn't change the lineup however, that would then be TiVo's fault for changing this lineup for whatever reason.

This occasionally happens. It happens with me, and I have DirecTV!
It usually gets corrected in a couple of days. There is no way to override it.
Until then, note that the season passes on those affected channels will not record, the channel will not show up in the guide, and you will have to record the shows manually.

I'm ahead of you on that one. I left my SPs as is and added the necessary manual recordings to another Tivo so that I'll get everything regardless of when the problem is corrected.

Zap2it has the wrong lineup that includes court tv on two channels. I checked the cable co website and it has no changes. I called the cable co Friday and was informed that no changes were made and none are planned for anytime soon.
edit:
It would seem the cable co rep that I talked to lied or was otherwise clueless. A lineup change is scheduled but I'm not sure when it will happen.
I just found out that my cable co has printed and mailed out a new channel lineup card that is dated aug. 2005 that reflects the changes my Tivo claims have been made. I saw the card at my parents' house - I either never got one or tossed it because it looked like junkmail. the problem is still that Tivo thinks the lineup has changed and it hasn't - at least not yet.

Sounds like the cable co reported the changes to Tribune early. I've had this happen a couple of times with Comcrap. About the only workaround as far as SPs and such would be to look for a nearby town with the same lineup as you currently have and use that.

The tivo.com website has a form to fill out to report lineup issues. I've reported issues with my lineup in the past and they were fixed in a few days.

I'm having a similar problem. Zap2It/TiVo reported a change more than a few weeks ago that has yet to actually happen. My cable company (Adelpia) website doesn't even list the change.
After waiting a few weeks (thinking it was just reported early) I submitted the error to TiVo. I hadn't heard anything after 10 business days so I emailed them. Later that day they wrote me back (would they ever have without my prompting them again?) saying Adelphia was claiming the change was valid so there was nothing they could do and put it in my lap to fight it with Adelphia.
Um, no, sorry - not good enough.
I wrote back asking if they bothered to tell Adelphia that Adelphia's own website doesn't show this change (TiVo said they found a listing online that matched what I said) but they didn't write back.
I've submitted the error to Zap2it.com but I expect the same ineptitude.
I refuse to deal with the cable company myself... and even if not, what makes them think I'd have any better luck?
What should I do?

This is not to praise the virtues of DBS, but at least DirecTV and probably Dish don't change their lineups very often.

cwoody222,
If you have a case number, call Tivo customer service. In all probability you can get them to transfer you to a lineup specialist to discuss it in person. I've had a similar situation to yours and this approach finally worked. You could also send a PM to one of the Tivo reps that frequent this forum. It's unlikely zap2it will help you out. After all, you're not one of their paying customers like Tivo is.

Thanks. Maybe I'll call (and sit on hold, I'm sure).
Do you think it'll hurt to send them a picture of the screen showing the station on the channel that I said it was on?

Which TiVoPerson here should I PM?
I was about to PM TiVoBill until I remembered... he's gone, isn't he? Who took up his reins?

Which TiVo employee can I PM here on this forum?
TiVo.com never replied to me from late Dec. after they basically threw their hands up in the air.
And Zap2It.com didn't do anything nor did they contact me.
The lineup change occurred over a month ago and it's still incorrect so I don't think it's a matter of Adelphia changing their lineup a bit prematurely... the change is just plain WRONG and is preventing me from recording on TLC and another channel.
Who can I PM? TiVo... are you out there?

TiVoStephen, TiVoJerry, TiVoPony. If I'm mistaken any that I've mentioned here as TiVo employees that can be contacted, I'd ask them to step in and correct me.

Hahahahah! Good one :)
My Dish lineup change on average 3 times a week - they just can't seem to make up their minds.

It's all about contractual obligations beginning or ending...
the affiliate sales and ad sales groups must be really busy there.
