Does anyone know when the new Doctor Who series currently playing in the UK (and Canada) will come to the US?

I checked the BBC America website last week and it was not listed there at all. I'm hoping we will get it fairly soon. A friend sent me a DVD of the first episode and I enjoyed it.

I'd like to see the new Doctor Who too.
You're welcome to visit this page (http://leovilletownsquare.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=254037&page=&fpart=2&vc=1) and scroll down a bit to view some of pics from a St. Louis Doctor Who convention.

I'm not a Torrent guy, so I'm glad the BBC is releasing the series WHILE it airs. Got the first three eps, and the next three will be coming in a few weeks. Gotta love multiple-region PAL/NTSC DVD players!

I take it the BBC has the episodes available somewhere? That'll do for now, although I'd prefer not having to go through this route to watch the show.
I stopped using bittorrent when it got too much press time...

A friend of mine is a big Dr. Who fan and he indicated that there are no plans to release the new Dr. Who in the states. That could change, but last he heard this was the case.

Even BBC America says no.
That's interesting. This site (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/613/613152p1.html) though indicates that there might be a feature film, based on how the new series does in the US. I think they need to communicate better!

No, but bittorrent, IRC, Newsgroups, may be of some help to you. Nine episodes of Dr. Who have aired so far and the series pretty gosh darn good. I've enjoyed every episode.
I watched the early episodes on a local PBS tv station back in the 80's and have been a fan since.

What I've heard is that BBC America is one of the Discovery Channel networks that just happens to air primarily British shows.
I'd like to see superstation WGN carry the show. We'll see what happens.

There's a Yahoo Group called "thisweekindoctorwho" where the guy sends out weekly updates on where the new series has been picked up. He also sends out email alerts when a new country picks it up.
The current list of countries where someone has bought the rights to show it (regardless of whether they have started showing it or not):
UK (obviously)
Canada
Australia
New Zealand
Netherlands
Italy
Finland
South Korea
and some UK-based airline called Thomsonfly Airlines is showing the first episode on their in-flight entertainment this month.
No word on the US purchase. I thought I read some time back that both Sci-Fi and BBC America were interested. PBS may be interested but it would be on a station-by-station basis, and based on the economics of my local PBS station (KTEH-54 in San Jose, which used to have a fantastic Sunday night scifi lineup, but I was there for a pledge drive last year and they had a skeleton staff and were cutting back on essentials like cleaning) I can't imagine they will pick it up, so I'm hoping for one of the national cable networks.

I accidentally stumbled on the first episode on Canadian TV a few days ago. It's running on CBC there. I came in about half way through the episode. If someone has seen the first episode I'd like to be clued in on what exactly was with the disappearing and reappearing yellow car driving around the block.

Apparently, nobody who's interested can afford what the BBC is asking, and nobody who can afford it is interested.

The PAL discs can be ordered from amazon.co.uk. The first disc (with the first three episodes) is out now, the second disc will be out mid-June. No announcement of the remainder of the discs.
A box set with all the episodes and extras is due out in November.

Huh. Interesting. I just looked at the trailer and that would definitely be it. The Doctor didn't seem to have much to do with Rose in the last half of that episode. I assumed they didn't know each other.

Spoiler for the recent two parter:I want my mummy. Are you my mummy?

The Doctor felt used by Rose, citing that She didn't want to travel with him when she thought it was "just" a spacecraft, but he couldn't stop her once he told her that it could travel in time, and he believed that the only reason that she was with him was in order to go back in time and save her fathers life
This Doctor is quite different than the others. He's extremely cynical and doesn't really trust anyone, not even Rose. (Tho that is changing)
The Doctor seems to be feeling VERY guilty about being the last Timelord, as we've watched him deal with his grief all season, knowing that he has the ability to change what happens, but is bound by the laws of time travel not to. I think that was actually one of the primary reasons they did a story like Father's Day.
It was announced last week that Rose will be leaving the show durring the second series to pursue other acting oppurtunities (something that worked out well for David Caruso  )

Why is he the

It was also strongly implied that the actress (actually a singer, but she's quite good in the role) hadn't realized what she was getting herself into, and wasn't up to the grind of a weekly show...
It's unlikely it will make an appearance on Nebraska Educational TeleVision. They've taken it as their mandate to educate, not entertain, and they feel that no sci-fi qualifies.
And I so want to see Queen Labiblia and her computer IZ2Z again.

The Time Lords had an all-out war with the Daleks. As a consequence, Galifray (the home world for Time Lords) was destroyed and both the Daleks and the Time Lords wiped each out.
It hasn't been discussed yet that I've seen as to whether the Doctor just missed the war, or somehow was the only survivor from the war.

Spoiler tags are made for this. Works just like "Quote" just use the word "spoiler."
I only fell upon the 'spoiler' tag by accident, I am sure that many that are new to tv /cinema based forums won't be aware of specialist tags which aren't included as buttons in the Advanced post entry page.
I was just letting you know that there actually is a spoiler tag since you seemed to use a more labor intensive method.
Like this
Hit the quote button and you'll see how I coded that...
An once in a lifetime trip to the test forum taught me how to do this
Oops, I thought I was respoding to the poster that I originally put that in for, or assumed so since it seemed like a response to my first post. But I see it's a different person... carry on...

FINALLY! -- My Friday night SCIFI tivoing tradition continues.
BTW saw the BBC Christmas Eve premier of the New doctor for 2006 still havn't seen Eccleston's version.
The new one is OK but I actually thought the story line was a bit weak for that special. Since I've heard such good things about the 2005 shows I can't wait...

One thought -- I wonder how much SciFi will be chopping to account for commercials. MI-5 on A&E (BBC Spooks) actually comes off a bit strange due to some of the missing scenes here in the States (but it is still great either way).
Rob Helmerichs

MI-5 is an hour-long show that gets chopped down to 45 minutes. Doctor Who is a 45-minute show, so the damage should be minimal if any.
Doctor Who 2005 is a great addition to the Doctor Who series. I'm sure it won't be shown in widescreen on the SciFi channel though and that's too bad.

If you do, make sure the DVD's are coded to play on a USA DVD player.
Some DVD players can override it and play DVD's from any country. but those are rare machines.

They aren't particularly rare machines. The cheapest progressive-scan player you can buy at your local Best Buy or Walmart can be easily made multi-region.
The bigger problem is PAL vs. NTSC. However, many machines (including the Cyberhome mentioned above) will also do that conversion.
Canadian DVDs and American are in the same region, and the same format. Copyright restrictions are the only thing that would prevent import of Canadian DVDs. Re: The Dr. Who discs, my only question is if they will actually be released in Canada on Feb 14th. I'd put it at 50/50.

Following up myself, it has been confirmed the Canada-only release is indeed coming on Valentine's Day! :)
The BBC have some fun with the SF sale at the official DW site.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/
The US release on July 4 may be a bit cheaper than the $88+ shipping to import the Canadian, but I'm willing to spend a bit more and not have to wait!
However, even with the DVDs, the ratings are important, so Sci-Fi picks up the option, and we get series two sometime this year...

BBC America will be showing the Christopher Eccleston episodes from 2005, starting in November. They just started showing promos this week. Apparently they will be uncut -- well, still with commercials, but no material will be cut from the broadcast -- some of the episodes were cut slightly when they were broadcast on Sci Fi earlier this year. Info from the "thisweekindoctorwho" Yahoo Group.
Sci Fi will be showing the David Tennant episodes from 2006, starting in late September.

The BBC just recently made the old series available again for broadcasters to buy -- they had taken it off the market when the new series started up in order to increase demand for the Doctor.
A few PBS stations have picked up the old episodes, but just a few. Here's the list right now -- again, info courtesy of the Yahoo group "thisweekindoctorwho" -- there's a guy who keeps track of all this stuff and sends out email every Wednesday with info on where the Doctor can be seen around the world, it's a good resource, check it out -- OK, plug over, here's the list:
Maryland Public TV
WCET Cincinnati, starting October 7
Iowa Public TV
KBTC/KCKA Tacoma/Centralia, WA
That is all for right now. Write your local PBS station and ask them to bring back the Doctor!

Just thought you might like to know. I don't think it will be the complete episode though, since there will be commercials. It will probably also be aired at 11PM on the same day, as the SciFi Channel has been in the habit of repeating the broadcasts of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis both at 8, 9PM and at later times on Friday nights, starting after Painkiller Jane is over at 11PM.
