So I broke down and got another Elite/XL4 (4th one) and I want to test it out with the new fall update that just came out. I set it up this morning, and finally got it to go to the 7 day trial period so I can record stuff and use it. I had to connect several times to get the guide data, and I guess it had to do some indexing. Finally this evening it got to the point to where it will let me record stuff, and it says it has to be activated in 6 more days. I've tried to connect a few more times to try to get it to download the new fall update, but it downloaded and installed the previous one. I called Tivo and of course they want me to put it on contract, but I dont want to do that yet until I can tell if its gonna act right or not. I even went and put it on that "priority list" so maybe that will help to get it. Still nothing after 2 more connects to the mothership.
So my question, is there some reason it wont let me have the update? Am I going to have to activate it before it will let me have the update? Is it possible it will come in the next day or so maybe? This is so frustrating
I was just given a Humax DRT800. I also found out that it does not have Tivo Basic service. Anyone thought about putting a Toshiba or Pioneer image on it?
I know there was some discussion about using a Tivax's serial port, but beyond that, has there been any updates?
I currently have a lifetime subscription Tivo HD and was going to exchange it against a Premiere XL4 and Tivo Minis after the Minis are released & reviewed. But now that those are delayed until sometime next year and a new TV is hanging idle on my bedroom wall, I have to make a decision.
Would combining a Premiere XL4 with my existing Tivo HD work well? I would record most on the livingroom XL4 and pass it on to the bedroom HD if needed there. I would still hope for the minis to show up one day and be good.
Any non-Tivo alternative?
I use Picasa on my PC to edit photos because I am familiar with and like the editing tools. But when I access a Picasa-edited pictures folders on my PC networked with my TiVo so that I can watch a slide show on my TiVo-connected TV monitor, the slideshow does not show the Picasa-edited images. It shows only the original images. Is there anyway to stream the Picasa-edited images to the TiVo? (by the way, I do not want to watch the slide show from Picasa/Google+ on the web, because those are compressed images, and Picasa on the web offers limited free space)
The island back story interested me more than the current day story. I have no idea what went on back then yet but hopefully they'll keep filling in parts.
I didn't care for any of the current day Oliver story lines in this episode. I let out a mental "Child, please" when Laurel said that she and Oliver can never be together again. She wants it. He wants it. Writers, please skip the endless episodes of angst.
Apparently, Starling City looks just like Philadelphia. That was Center City Philadelphia whenever they showed the aerial view of Starling City's skyline. I could see the office building I worked in for 20 years.
the 2 parter with the sisters was interesting from the perspective of WTF kind of people are there in this world?
you can diss a customer from the kitchen all you want but to go in front of them and press their food and tell them it's warm and how did it warm up between the table and the kitchen is soooo rude! what kind of environment were these girls raised in? they probably fought over every little thing and had parents that constantly bickered too and the last word was most important
the chicken on the floor was pretty good..if gordo really wanted to nip it in the bud he would have taken the pan and put it in the sink or something but instead he left it on the stove for tv effect
as a somewhat irrelevant aside, there were times the skinny sister looked very good and other times she looked like a zombie..the cameras really do play tricks lol
and i loved the guy that pretended to be the boss or the manager..but seems like the girls played along with it sometimes ...they definitely had no chops to try to discipline anyone, just bitch about them.
that one waitress that wound up quitting seemed like she could be supernasty..intentionally sabotaging poor menu choices being chosen was pretty transparent.
It looks like we've gone back and forth with a season thread vs episode thread so I'm starting a Season thread but we can always change if people want.
I like the start of this season with the judges picking who goes.
Was sad not to see any Padma though!
now THAT was a funny episode....several lol moments for me.
I am constantly getting V301 errors when I attempt to access various streaming applications such as Hulu+, Netflix, xFinity, Amazon etc, etc.
If I spend 2-3 minutes accessing the stream application (ie 50+ times) the Tivo Preimiere will finally connect, but it requires determination on my part to sit there selecting the stream application until there is a successful connection.
I have two Tivo S3, a Rulu XS, and a PC; when accessing the same stream applications (ie Netflix) I do not have any problems, thus its not a problem with my local network. I have been using these stream applications for several years without getting errors. It is only the TiVo Preimere that is currently failing.
Like some other folks, I had problems with my FIOS CableCARD. It was
activated, but not paired with my TiVo. So channels which are copy
protected wouldn't display.
Today I found a customer service rep who was willing to do as I
suggested. He did a "CableCARD reload", and almost instantly
everything was fixed. I just thought I'd pass this along. This was
mentioned here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...ad#post9233875
which is why I suggested it to VZ in the first place.
Your mileage may vary.
What is considered to be the normal menu navigation speed for Hulu Plus on TiVo?
When I attempt to use Hulu Plus, the menu nagivation is very very slow and tends to buffer commands, thus it is easy to mis-select menu items unless I go very slow, waiting for the screen to refresh to make sure the command buffer is clear. Basicly, I need to wait about 1-2 seconds between commands, otherwise I end up on a screen I do not want.
Other applications such as Netflix and xFinity have acceptible menu\navigation performance (not great, but acceptable).
Also, I have a Ruku XS device, and the Hulu menu performance is acceptable.
I've noticed in the first few episodes of the season that there's more meaning behind the imagery and placement of the actors' names than there were in the opening used in season 1 and 2. I decided to do an analysis and thought it would be fun as its own thread.
Expect spoilers through the currently aired episode, but please try to refrain from future spoilers or comics spoilers, or spoiler tag them.
Here goes! Hopefully I don't just talk to myself and you don't just make fun of me for analyzing the credits.
Abandonded cars on a country road. Evokes the traffic jam from season 2, as well as the abandoning of the farm at the end of the season. Everything is in disarry. Things are going off the rails - cars in the distance off the side of the road.
Andrew Lincoln (Rick)
A newspaper blows away to reveal the sheriff's deputy badge underneath. Rick has hidden or put aside his roots as a lawman - but they are still there below the surface. Could foreshadow his return to those roots - or at the very least that he will again stand on the side of good and righteousness against the Governor.
Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori) and then quickly
Laurie Holden (Andrea)
There is a centipede of some kind crawling over what looks like shell casings. The shell casings foreshadow Lori's death and could indicate that Andrea will need to fight or is in danger as well. Their names do not share the screen at the same time, but the same image is used for both of them.
Norman Reedus (Daryl)
Arrows - duh! Daryl's primary weapon is a crossbow. But, it is not just one arrow, it is two arrows. That could signify the return of Meryl, or it could foreshadow a relationship for Daryl, perhaps with Carol which they've been flirting with since the end of season 2. Generally, it just seems to indicate that Daryl is no longer alone.
Quick fade to a house, looks like the farmhouse from season 2. No names, immediately fades to the next scene.
Steven Yeun (Glenn)
This is a pocket watch with the clock moving very quickly. I can't remember where the pocket watch came from - was it Dale's? I do remember it being important to Glenn. Time on the watch is moving fast, which shows how Glenn is developing, from a kid who took risks into a man who has responsibilities a relationship, and perhaps now, a family.
Lauren Cohan (Maggie)
A graveyard. Maggie lost much of her family last season, and I wouldn't be surprised if she loses the rest of it this season. Hershel's already down a limb!
Chandler Riggs (Carl)
Flowers in focus in the foreground change to an abandoned house in focus in the background. I believe the flowers were the ones that represented Sophia and so represent Carl's childhood, lovely, happy, good, playing with other children, going to school. But Carl has had to grow up fast and is now better represented by the building. He is cold, hard, and alone. His mother is now dead and his father is as cold and hard as he is. Carl the child has been abandoned, just like the house.
Danai Gurira (Michonne)
The bottom of a closed door. There is darkness on the near side of the door and light on the far side. We can see shadows moving. This represents both Michonne's hidden strength - she is staying cool and calm, biding her time before attacking - as well as her ability to see the hidden danger in the Governor's town.
Michael Rooker (Merle)
Close up of an eye, looks as thought it is a black man. The eye is bloodshot and is looking away, blinks and then the camera changes and the eye is seen closer. Merle is looking out for his best interests. He is also one that needs to be closely watched because of that. He is also seeking his brother - looking for him. There could be something around T-Dog, since the eye is from a black man, and T-Dog was the reason Merle was left on the roof in season 1, but that's more of a stretch.
Brief shots of the interior of a house. Abandoned, in disarry. The camera moves quickly through a kitchen/dining room towards some windows.
David Morrissey (the Governor)
The Governor is darkness (the disarry of the kitchen/dining area) and light (the windows with the shining sunlight and the fluttering curtains). There is some hope and good he has created with his town, but it is surrounded by darkness and if light shone on those parts of the house (the town), the mess would be seen by all.
Now we are in an hallway of a house, facing the front door. The door is open with sun shining in. The camera moves quickly out the door and shows the middle of the woods. Various shots of the prison, abandonded towns, tattered flag as the producers and creator credits are given.
The Walking Dead
The Tivo and Guide button on the remote, and on the Series 3 box does not work. I would rule out any strange remote / interference / channel / code /1-2 switch issues since the buttons on the S3 don't work. The rest of the buttons, pause, whatever do work.
Power cycling usually works, but not always. It happens often enough that it is beginning to piss off the rest of my family and me.
So, I revived my old Lifetime Series2 540 by swapping out a drive from an unused box. After a 2 hour clear and delete, everything is setup again, BUT the remote address. There are two TiVos upstairs-- different rooms, but still. I have diligently followed the instructions to set the revived TiVo's remote to "2", but the box *keeps* reverting to "0"!! No other remote is being used in the same room-- the doors are even closed to the room during the setup. I tried fresh batteries as well as a different peanut remote. Same result. (I am not trying to use the same remote with the two boxes.)
I one thing I was thinking was an OS bug? The box is running 8.x, I think that is behind, even for a Series2. (I assume an update will arrive in time.) Could there be an old bug lingering there?
I really want to get this sorted as the room with DVR "1" normally has the adjoining door open and I don't want it to interfere with "2".
I guess I know who Jeff voted for President. :D
Amazes me how a person who by his own admission made $60 million in baseball can be so money hungry.
We are never getting our brother bond back at this rate.
Not that I blame Sam for finally standing up to Dean, he was right. Dean has been non stop. But I still don't get the not looking for him thing!! Is that really all we are getting on that? He felt like his world imploded and he ran? Really show? I might have bought that had this been the first time he's had to deal with Dean being missing/dead/gone/whatever. But he should never have expected that this time was the final time. Why? Why would he ever? Not the Sam I've watched for 7 seasons. Argh. This is frustrating me to death.
That sequence with the Soundgarden song was really cool.
I'm still so so on Amelia but I don't hate her.
Garth killed the tooth fairy! Why Garth, why?
I like that he's the new Bobby but I really miss the real Bobby.
I'm new to Tivo. I have a Premiere Q unit from my cable company. I'm also a DirecTV subscriber and so I'm accustom to their HR dvrs. That being said Sunday night during The Walking Dead and Dexter I had a power failure that lasted only a few minutes. After the power came back on the Tivo started up and resumed recording as did the HR21. However, the HR21 also re-recorded the two shows later that night as they were listed as partial recordings. The Tivo did no such thing. Is this normal for the Tivo? Thanks.
